Cyber-bullying
Today, cyber-bullying is becoming more common than regular bullying. The bully feels protected behind the screen and can do more damage from there. Kids can have entire reputations damaged by cyberbullies. This can lead kids into being withdrawn and feeling alone. The bully feels empowered.
Relation to Digital Literacy Goals
By third grade, kids are expected to be introduced to cyber-bullying and what it means. they should also be able to see the signs and know what to do in those situations.
In My Future Classroom...
My students will be comfortable with reporting bullies they either come in contact with or heard about through a friend. They will know what signs to look for and won't be afraid to do the right thing.

Internet Safety
Being safe online means going to safe websites, not giving out private information, and being aware of who you are interacting with. Anyone can go and make a fake profile and it is very hard to tell the real form the fake. Kids today need to know how to safely use the internet without putting themselves in danger.
Relation to Louisiana Literacy Goals
It is said that Kindergarten is the appropriate age to introduce internet safety. At this age, kids are very impressionable. If we can get safety rules through to them at a younger age, then we can be better comfortable with the thought that they will practice internet safety.
Internet Safety In My Classroom
In my classroom, I plan to have a fun way of teaching internet saftey. More than likely, i will use a game of true or false with teams and facts. The winning team will get a piece of candy. The students will also be shown small videos before the game to give them some information.

Difference Between Private and Personal Information
When asked, most people would probably say that the two are the same. However, they are different in that private information is what you don not want to share at all and personal information is ok in some situations. Persoanl information can be what music do you like, favorite food, and basically anything that someone couldn't use to find you. Private information is what you never want anyone else to know; your birthday, any passwords, and your address just for example.
Relation to Louisiana Digital Literacy Goals
It is very important that kids learn as early as possible about the dangers of sharing their information online. They need to know that if they choose to give out their information, it could possibly put them in danger. Teaching them what information is ok and what isn't is a great way to protect the kids.
In My Future Classroom...
I plan on having a very hands-on classroom so what better way to teach them a lesson on sharing information than to play a game. I want to have some friendly competition also, so I will probably divide the class in two and see if they can decide if a piece of information is safe to share or not. The winning team will receive a piece of candy or something small.
