Explain Everything
Week 3 Task 1: Representation
Explain Everything as a UDL tool: Representation
Explain Everything is a wonderful tool that I use with my students in grades 3-5. Mark Fijor of NewSchool Technology reviews the app below.
"Explain Everything is essentially an app with a whiteboard type screen that allows users to record audio (and now video), write, and move objects all while recording in real time. The end products can be pictures, videos, and even template projects. Explain Everything allows users to annotate any object on the iPad with the touch of their finger. It makes it easy for kids and adults to capture their screens and share it with virtually anyone."

I have used this demo in a flipped classroom format so I don't have to spend the time teaching them the app and we can spend more time focusing on content.

How does the app work with my students?
This app is a great fit for my 3rd-5th grade students. It is very customizable and fits the unique vision of each student. It allows students to "explain everything" with text, audio, video, images and links. I feel this app is a wonderful illustration for the UDL principal of representation.
Who does this app work for?
Well I believe all of my first thru fifth grade students can use this app. However, I feel it is best suited for grades 3-5. My first and second graders would get "lost" in some of the technical features and we would spend more time learning the tool instead of making meaningful connections to content. If I were to use it with my youngest students, I would limit which tools they could use, so to not overwhelm them.
