The WTSD Watch
Your one-stop-shop for all things happening in our schools!
From the Superintendent of Schools
We will also be upgrading our school facilities. This upgrading will include the removal of carpeting in all three schools, as well as security improvements.
While we all know change is hard, the changes that are being made are for one reason and one reason only: to help our students.
I wish all of you a fantastic, relaxing, and safe summer.
Yours In Education,
Jay Eitner

SCHOOL NEWS!
Atco News:
May has been a fun-filled time at Atco Elementary School. As per board policy, Atco Elementary established goals and an action plan to support nutritional, physical, and emotional wellness. The students dressed in various themes during Wellness Week in mid-May to culminate this year’s action plan. In addition, the students participated in the final Bucket Filler Jamboree. Cinco de Mayo was celebrated by doing the Mexican Hat Dance. Kindergarten students released butterflies after learning about the butterfly’s life cycle, and first-grade students performed for the kindergarten students and parents in our spring concert. The month of May concluded with the kindergarten class field trip to Storybook Land. It is nice to see that spring has sprung and the children are able to enjoy the beautiful sunshine and weather!
TR NEWS
Greetings to all Thomas Richards Families! The school year is quickly coming to a close and the month of May was full of exciting events for our students and staff.
We celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week with the help of our local Girl Scout Troop and our Home and School Association. Our Girl Scouts honored our staff with a celebratory assembly where our staff members were recognized for their hard work and dedication. The Girl Scouts did an outstanding job of pointing out all of the reasons why our staff is valued and respected within the school and the community. Our staff is appreciative of the kindness displayed by our Girl Scouts. The Waterford Township Home and School Association once again provided our staff with a delicious lunch in recognition of their endless efforts and support to our children! Thank you Home and School!!
Our second and third graders performed in our annual Spring Concerts and dazzled the audience. The second-grade students performed their show on May 12th for both parents and students. As always, our second-grade children sang their little hearts out and were rewarded with an astounding response from the audience. On May 19th, our Third Grade Chorus performed for our staff and our families. Students treated their on-lookers to fancy dance moves and theatrical performances that brought both laughter and cheers. A special thank you goes out to Mr. Blackford, Mr. Moore, and Mrs. O'Donnell for their efforts in organizing the performance!!
On May 25th, our third-grade students traveled to Philadelphia to visit the Franklin Institute for their field trip. The children had a great time and spent the day exploring hands-on learning activities that were engaging and fun! Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who chaperoned the trip!
In June, we have an exciting month of events scheduled including Field Day and our second-grade class trip to the Academy of Natural Sciences. We wish everyone a happy and healthy unofficial start to the summer!
Preparing for 16-17
Mrs. Chance's, Mrs. Parker's, and Mrs. Young's class are piloting new science programs for 2016-17. So far, so good! Mrs. Parker's class is also piloting new programming for next year. The science labs and lessons are working out great!
Spring Concert & Art Show
Our Spring Concert and Art Show played to a packed house. Our thanks and gratitude goes to Mr. Lieby, as he is retiring after 28 years with us. We wish you all the best; and yes, Mr. Lieby, the band will play on.
WES Author Visit
Author and illustrator Michael Dooling visited WES and taught students about using drawings to help express emotions and feelings in a story. He also discussed how to effectively conduct plenty of research before illustrating a story about history, including reading books and visiting museums. Kevin and his family members have posed for several pictures included in Mr. Dooling's books (Including the bugle boy for a Civil War story).
