Ms. Danette's First Grade

Week of May 2

From Ms. Danette

Dear First Grade Families, I am trying a new and cuter layout for my weekly communications. Ms. Kimberley is gone now, so it is back to me and the students for the last three weeks. This week is Teacher Appreciation week. Thanks for helping with the meal this Thursday.

Your child will bring home an oral reading fluency test on Monday. This is our final for the year. Instead of doing a new one, I wanted to see how each child had grown with reading this year, so I did the very first one again. At the very bottom, you can see your child's first score as compared to your child's current score. For those children below 60, it is going to be crucial to read this summer. Expose your children to as many books as you can. You need to model reading and have your child read orally to you. Fluency will be lost over the summer if you do not continue to read over the break.

Talent Show

Today we started practicing for our Talent Show. All students will be dancing to some fun and current songs. Students need to wear blue jeans, blue jean shorts, and a camouflaged bandanna. I have several for the kids to borrow, but I don't have enough for all. If you have one send it for us to use and I will return it. I have requested for us to be the first act on May 17. I would arrive no later than 12:30 for a seat.

This will be our final week for reading homework. We will not have a comprehension test this week. I did not give the comprehension test last week either. The only test on Friday will be the spelling test. The spelling/phonics rule is silent letters: wr, kn, gn.

Monday-Study spelling words and learn high frequency words: been, children, month, question, their, year. Read in the small red book, Wrapped In Ice.

Tuesday-Read the leveled reader and return it for Wednesday

Wednesday-No Homework

Thursday-Study spelling words and read in the big red book.

Friday-Final tests for the year.
