Pre-K Specials

NFS Curriculum Update :: May & June 2016

Pre-k will visit the library each week for story time and to select books. We will read a couple folktales, and cumulative and predictive stories including The Giant Jam Sandwich, Chicken Little, and Martha Speaks.

I have had such a wonderful time working with this pre-k class. We have finished our letter songs, played instruments, danced, read stories, learned about instrument families, played games and had fun. We will continue this throughout the end of the year. Thank you for sharing your child with me this year!

The first part of May will focus mainly on Field Day activities that the students will be participating in at the big event. Students will be familiar with the activities prior to Field Day so they will be able to comfortably perform the required tasks. They will have an older buddy assigned to them during the event. Following Field Day and weather permitting, PE will go outside on the fields playing outdoor games and activities. We will even use the rock wall again this month. In the final week of the school year, the students will have the opportunity to choose a few of their favorite games and activities and repeat these activities one final time before the end of school.

May and June students will enjoy the changing weather and the coming of Spring in our next unit “La Naturaleza” (Nature/the Natural World). Students will learn the names for plants, insects and other features of the natural world. We will take at least one nature walk and identify things we see using the Spanish we’ve learned. This unit prompts students to respond to the questions: “¿Qué es esto?” (What is this?) and the plural counterpart. We will learn a traditional Latin American song, “De Colores," that celebrates the arrival of Spring. Typically we spend the last few classes in June reviewing all the material we’ve learned over the course of the year with games, songs, and fun activities!
