COUNSELORS CORNER
Attention Class of 2024!!! You are now one quarter into your High School experience and you should be getting a better idea of how classes, homework, and expectations at the high school level are like. You might have even heard the word "credits" floating around as your classmates discuss grades and graduation. Did you know that you have to have 22 credits to graduate? Each class is worth 1/2 credit per semester, so the entire year is equal to 1 full credit. Any grade of 60% or higher will earn you that half credit...any lower than that, and you have to make up the class. A common misconception is that any credits will do...no so. Arizona has laid out graduation requirements very specifically:
- 4 credits in math (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, math of choice)
- 4 credits in English
- 3 credits in Social Studies (World History, US History, Government/Economics)
- 3 credits in Science (Integrated Science, Biology, Science of choice)
- 1 Fine Art or CTE elective credit
- 7 elective credits
Have questions about credits or need additional academic information? Talk to your counselor...they are here to help!
