UHMS Rising Phoenix
Uplift Hampton Middle School April 20, 2020
"Be Committed, Be Consistent, Be Courageous"
Strength and Comfort
Hello Phoenix Nation,
The world is different today than it was a few weeks ago. COVID-19 continues to sweep across our world and nation. Uncertainty is at an all-time high, as we experience a complete disruption in our homes and workplaces. There’s no quick fix. There’s no silver bullet. We wish there was an easy way to make this all better. There is not. What we promise is that we will lean in. We will be here for you. We will listen to you, empathize with you, communicate frequently, and be flexible and supportive to meet as many of your needs as we can. Our mission at UHMS is to make work better every day—but sometimes there are circumstances that make that challenging. The world as we know it has changed. Take a deep breath and know that you are not alone. Together we are towers of strength and arms of comfort for each other. We got this. Know that we’re here for you. We believe in you and your abilities to be rainbows in someone else’s clouds. We are sending peace and blessing to you all. “Whenever you find yourself doubting how far you can go, just remember how far you have come. Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won, and all the fears you have overcome” - Unknown
With love,
Priscilla, Chataqua, Chrissy, and Jabez
Things To Do
ACTION REQUIRED Address: For those of you who are currently NOT at the location that HR has for you, please complete this CMO survey here by EOD Monday. CMO is sending out teacher appreciation gifts to the address you have listed with HR UNLESS you change it here. PLEASE DO NOT put your name here if you have not moved/staying elsewhere.
ESL Update, Action required in one week: An English Learner Reclassification Rubric form will be sent through ELLevation for every current EL on Monday, April 27th. This form is required by TEA for the subjective teacher evaluation component of the reclassification criteria, providing teacher documentation of the scholar’s English language proficiency with academic language and informing the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) of the scholar’s readiness for reclassification as a non-English learner with potential placement in a general education classroom setting. If you have any questions, please contact Lupe . All Forms are DUE BY EOD 5/8. Do not miss the deadline.
Scholar Assignment Feedback: Scholars should have received feedback on at least 6 Google classroom assignments by April 24th
Hero Usage: We would like for you to start using HERO points to scholars as they complete their online learning and participate in the live sessions.
Things to Know
Wednesday: This Wednesday our PD will take place via ZOOM at 1pm. We look forward to seeing you online!
Move Out/EOY Checklist: The network just gave guidance around closing classrooms. Byron will send out information and sign up dates next week.
Bad Weather Make-Up Day: Friday, April 24th is our final bad weather make-up day on our academic calendar. We will not be doing meal service on April 24th and will continue to remind parents over the course of next week.
Uplift has published information on Uplink on the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA): A provision in House Bill 3 that gives school districts the opportunity to create a local designation system that identifies the top 30% of classroom teachers state-wide as “recognized,” “exemplary,” and “master”. Districts across the state of Texas with designated teachers will receive an allotment ranging from $3,000-$32,000 for each teacher with said designation that goes toward compensation at the campus where the teacher works. Take time to review the information on Uplink as this is an exciting opportunity for teachers in TX and for teachers in Uplift. The network will send out a survey to all teachers next week to collect more input on TIA – and it will be helpful to know more about what TIA is beforehand.
Last week of school: No new assignments will be posted past May 11th. During this time you should support scholars with small groups/office hours to help ensure they are submitting final assignments and attendance/grades are correctly reflected. As teams, start thinking about ideas for virtual award ceremonies, virtual talent shows, etc.
Just in Case You Didn’t Know: Last day of school for Scholars: May 22 and the last for Staff: May 26
During this time, it is especially and critically important for all of us to practice self-care. Dr. Gasko sent an email this week discussing the importance of sleep with resources to help with getting quality rest during our crisis. Don’t forget our community care calls on Monday and Thursdays.

Network-wide Teacher Expectations: The network has 4 main Teacher Expectations as we start to roll-out our plans for Continuity of Learning: Recording scholar attendance, recording receipt of scholar work, keeping artifacts of scholar work, and providing feedback to scholars. Here is how we will navigate this on our campus. Please note that as we are learning these things can change.
- Receipt of Attendance - Work Products Count as Attendance
- Keep Receipt of Scholar Work including Due Dates
- Collect Artifacts of Scholar Work
- Give Feedback on Scholar Work
