Discovering Gold
In 1851 Edward Hargraves discovered gold at Summer Hills Creek near Bathurst. In 1 week there was over 400 people digging for gold. Australia produced a third of the worlds gold.
Searching For Gold
At first you found gold by panning in rivers and mud. Then you found gold by digging in rocks. Then you had to go under ground to find gold.
The Eureka Stockade
On November the 12th they built the stockade at Eureka diggings. There they burnt there licenses. On the 3rd of December the stockade was attacked and thousands of miners and some soldiers died on that tragic day.
Chinese On The Goldfields
The Chinese stayed together in large groups and stayed away from the others. Chinese were accused of racsism and were treated badly. They had to pay fees and they had to find goldmfrom the leftover rocks.
