COVID-19 Closure Update for OPS
Good afternoon, Otsego families,
Our conference call with the Allegan County Health Department and local superintendents was cancelled, so no update from the health department.
For those families that have requested an educational packet for grades 3-12, we will be delivering those tomorrow between the hours of 9 am and noon. Our transportation drivers and building administrators will be delivering packets to your residence.
We have completed our second week of food service for our students by serving meals to 4,492 students this week. Over the two-week period we have served a total of 8,179 students and 29,827 meals. We are truly grateful for our food service department and volunteers.
During the governor’s news conference this morning, she did not share anything new regarding school closures. The education association’s at the state level are urging legislators to immediately move to waive the days of instruction that fell during the closure from March 16 through April 13, 2020. We also urge Governor Whitmer within the next week to determine if a long-term closure will be necessary, so we can prepare for implementation plans for the long-term education of our students.
During this unprecedented time I couldn’t be more proud of our entire OPS staff for going above and beyond. I know you probably have seen a number of social media posts on how our staff is engaging with students and families. I hope you will take a minute and join me in thanking our staff for all they’re doing to make sure our students feel connected. Thank you.
