SAFETY FIRST: SchoolGate Guardian Installed

As we continually look to see how we can make our school district a safer place for students to learn, a new security system has been installed throughout the Elida District.

SchoolGate Guardian is a new visitor management system that will be used in our three school buildings. The use of a visitor management system aligns with the “Best Practices” for school security, and SchoolGate Guardian is currently in use in more than 1,000 school districts throughout the country. This new visitor management system will require visitors to have their driver’s license or state ID scanned. Once the visitor’s ID is checked against the National Sex Offender database and a district database, visitors will receive a visitor’s badge in order to enter the building from the school lobby.

Local Business owner shares his knowledge with Tech Club

One of the area's most successful businessmen, Mr. John Heaphy, owner of Happy Daz Restaurants, Old City Prime, and Beer Barrel Restaurants, spoke with the students in the high school Tech & Entrepreneur class on Tuesday. He talked with the students about leadership, risk- taking and failure. We appreciate his time, sharing his extensive knowledge with the students of Grit9. They hope to implement many of his ideas into Grit9, to help it grow and thrive just like his many restaurants.

Elida's Permanent Improvement Renewal Levy

The Elida School District is very careful with what it spends and without this permanent improvement levy we would have to pay for capital items out of the general fund. What does that mean? Less money available for the district's true purpose: educating Elida's children.

Please remember to vote on November 6th.

Levy Perspective: BUSES

  • To keep up a responsible rotation, the district needs to purchase one or two buses each year. One new bus purchase is 27% of the total available funds in the permanent improvement account for the year.
  • A new bus costs $92,000 and currently an old bus has a trade-in value of only $2,500. 20 years ago, the State paid 86% of the cost of a new bus. Today the State pays nothing-0%!
  • An Elida bus travels an average of 200,000 miles and is in service for 18 years before it is retired. That is 3 years longer than the state average.
  • Permanent Improvement Funds can help the district purchase new buses!

Remember to vote on November 6th.
