T-BIRDS SOAR Better Together!
5th Grade Drive-Thru Celebration - May 25th - 6:00-7:00pm
We are following the district recommendations/guidelines that were set up for EOY celebrations. We have been planning the celebrations for several weeks and chose the drive-through as the safest option for all of our families. The vehicles can be decorated and there is no limit of how many vehicles are representing each of our 5th graders. This way families can have as many members present without any limitations.
The parade of cars will be going through the north parking lot, similar to the way dismissal takes place in the afternoons. To help guide our families and visitors, there will be signs posted for entry and exit. We will be posting a large banner along a fence in the North Parking Lot where families can take pictures after the drive-through parade once they park their vehicle (parking may fill up in both lots quickly, but parking at the City Park is an option).
We will be sending a special 5th Grade Newsletter next week that will include a video that we have been working on. On the last day of school, at 10:30 a.m. our 5th graders will be doing one last "Walk of Fame" through our hallways that will be recorded and sent to parents as well. At the end of the Walk of Fame, the 5th graders will be receiving a Snow Cone provided by our PTA. All of the Lakeview students (PK-4) will also be receiving Snow Cones at the end of their lunches on the last day in honor of our 5th graders, and the beginning of Summer.
There is a chance of some rain sprinkles on Tuesday evening. We will have tents (and umbrellas) set up for photo opportunities. Our goal is to make it unique and special for our awesome 5th graders!

Dear Families,
Your business could be advertised on the parent hang tags that are distributed to every family as part of the SmartDISMISSAL program. There is enough space on the tag for up to (2) advertisements - so the cost can be split between 2 businesses. This is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please respond by Tuesday, May 25th for consideration for the upcoming school year and this exciting, tax-deductible advertising opportunity!
Please review the attached flyer for more details and if you are interested, or know someone who is, please contact me at paulap@norman.k12.ok.us.
I appreciate everything you do for our school!
Have a great week!
NPS S.P.L.A.S.H. - Summer Practice and Learning at School and Home
We are pleased to communicate a new summer learning opportunity was created in an effort to keep all of our students growing and engaged with reading, writing, and critical thinking. It’s called NPS S.P.L.A.S.H., Summer Practice and Learning at School and Home, and is free for your child.
S.P.L.A.S.H. grade level activities, individual SPLASH pads (notebooks/journals), and online resources will be sent home with your student before the last day of the 2020-21 school year. (Look for them Monday, May 24th). These interactive activities will provide various sources of reading materials, interactive activities to gain greater understanding of grade level content, and opportunities for families to engage in rich conversation throughout the summer months. As you review the learning options available, remember that reading outside the classroom is critical for student growth. Research suggests students read a minimum of 20 minutes a day at home.
Your student can access online reading materials through multiple sites listed under online resources, visit the local library, or access the NPS Learning Bus that will make its way through our community. The schedule for the NPS Learning Bus can be found on the back of this letter. The Learning Bus will serve as a mobile library for our community. Individuals may check out a book, as well as access wifi and STEM activities.
As your students engage in SPLASH activities, remember to play, discuss, write, and explore together. I look forward to hearing about the conversations and engagement through the enrichment activities.
Have a wonderful and safe summer!
