Sharing the Good News and Good Work of Students and Staff
September/October 2016 Edition
Dear #TeamPUSD,
Well that last month just flew by. Better late than never! I hope you enjoy the September/October edition of the #TeamPUSD newsletter. There are some exciting things happening throughout the District. Please keep those submissions coming.
-Christine Paik, Director of Communications
Dear Team:
As the school year gets into full swing, I thought it was the perfect time to remind everyone of our District’s goals that drive our work.
We are a District comprised of 35,877 students who speak 90 different languages. Amidst all of this diversity, how do we create a personalized learning environment? We can start by staying focused on our District LCAP goals:
1. Support high-quality teachers in their implementation of an articulated California standards-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure College and Career Readiness and Citizenship for all students.
2. Create systems and structures that provide multiple pathways of learning and engagement to increase College and Career Readiness of our students and close the achievement gaps for all subgroups.
3. Strengthen and maintain a safe, healthy, positive, and attractive learning environment for all learnings.
4. Increase parent and student engagement in learning through enhanced community involvement in the education of our students.
5. Develop, implement, and embed a collaborative learning structure and system for adults and students to increase student achievement.
Each and every one of our 4,000 employees plays a role in our students’ success by staying focused on our goals and remaining student-centered. I am proud to report that work is going on all over District in support of these goals. From the Teaching and Learning Cooperatives (TLC) and Classified Learning Cooperatives (CLC) for employees, to new and growing pathways in digital media, engineering, construction, and computer science for our students, PUSD believes continuous learning and growth should happen for both our students and staff.
And that brings me to the search for our new superintendent. This month, PUSD is launching a nationwide search for a superintendent who will support our District goals and lead our team. The board met in a special meeting last week to discuss the process and timeline with the firm that will be conducting the search. The next step is gathering input from all of our stakeholders, including you, on what qualities are important for this individual to possess. You can provide that input either through an online survey in English or Español (to be completed by October 18th) or through an in-person community forum on:
- Monday, October 17th at 11:30am in the District Office Community Room
- Monday, October 17th at 5:30pm in the District Office Community Room
- Tuesday, October 18th at 6:30pm (For Spanish speakers) at Valley Elementary School
Please be aware that for the Monday, October 17th meeting at 11:30am, parking will be a challenge since the forum is happening during regular business hours at the District office. For overflow parking, we have secured permission from Second Chance to park in their lot, located at 15378 Avenue of Science, and we are working on securing additional spaces if necessary.
This is a very important decision, and your participation matters, whether it be in person or online. Thank you #TeamPUSD for your continued work and support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mel Robertson
