Caught Using Kelso's Choices!
Classroom Corner
Ms. Davis (Kindergarten/First): K/1 is off to a great start! We have jumped right into learning our letter names and sounds in kindergarten and first grade has been practicing their reading comprehension and fluency skills. We have also been practicing writing "friendly letters" and will continue working on our letter writing skills in the weeks to come. I am excited for a wonderful school year with this combo class!
Ms. Baker (First/Second): First grade has been hard at work, gaining fluency with adding to 10. We will begin working on our fluency when subtracting within ten as well. As a class, we have been studying germs. We are looking to answer the questions, "What are germs?" and, "What do germs do?" This will continue to be our focus for the next couple of weeks. We will also continue spending time studying Egypt, both the ancient and modern times. So far, we have looked at Pharaohs and Hieroglyphics.
Mrs. Meyers (Second Core): The second graders have been working hard when they come in for reading and math. They have been learning about what it means to be a part of a community through stories and class discussions. They will continue to work on what that means and looks like for the next 2 weeks while working on different reading strategies and sight words. They have been showing grit through our first unit in math: making the next ten to add. They will be wrapping that up and moving on to place value next!

At Home
One way students are learning to solve "small" problems is by making a deal. Kids deal with conflict by deciding to find a compromise, or a way that both parties can get what they would like. Kids can do this by flipping a coin, playing rock paper scissors, or any other way that they can make a deal.
What are some ways you can talk to your kids at home about Kelso's Choices?
- Ask kids to review the 3 different parts of an apology with you! (I'm sorry for, a promise not to do it again, and asking what you can do to make things right).
- Talk to your children: When was a time you had to apologize, even though it was hard? Did it make you feel better in the long run?
