7th Grade Football: Inspiring Words From Coach Misencik
Importance of Attendance
As you may know, HB410 was passed in December 2016 to mandate that schools use a preventative approach to excessive absences and truancy. Districts are not permitted to suspend or expel students who miss too much school and must adopt policies that outline interventions and plans for students who miss too much school. These changes have been reflected in your child’s handbook that was distributed. A few changes to highlight are listed below
Here are some tips for promoting good attendance.

Coding Club Volunteers
Coding club is looking for parent volunteers to help one day a month with teaching students to code. If you are interested, please contact Missy Novak at mnovak@scsmustangs.org
Students are currently using the scratch.mit.edu to learn simple program. However, advanced students are interested in learning to code with other programs such as JAVA, Python, and Ruby.

DARE Halloween Party
Club Opportunities
Encourage your child to read the scrolling announcements, visible on the TV Screens in the Commons, that run throughout the day and before and after school. They have information on what clubs are offered, and when (day/time) and where they meet.

A CARD FOR EVERY KID LIBRARY CHALLENGE
It's national Library Card Sign-up Month and the Strongsville Public Library wants to make sure every child under 18 in our city owns a library card. Students no longer need a parent signature to sign up for a library card, AND during the month of September all student library fines for overdue public library books will be forgiven. More information is available at the Strongsville Public Library.
PTA Update
Join PTA Today!
We hope you'll consider joining - or renewing - your membership to SMS PTA this year. Each membership helps us to provide valuable programs to students at Strongsville Middle School. And, you can check for PTA updates and sign up for volunteer opportunities right here in Mr. Deitrick's weekly M'n'M update.
We have a couple of ways you can join SMS PTA:
- We have an online Membership Form where you can both complete the membership form and pay. Click here to access the online Membership Form. There is a small fee (about the same as a postage stamp) to pay online and you will have to complete a separate form for each member joining (i.e. mom and dad)
- Print, complete and mail the attached paper Membership Form with cash or check. Both parents can be included on one form, but it must be mailed to school - not sent with a student to school.
