As the state testing (PARCC) period approaches, I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of these assessments and their impact on our students' education. State tests are a valuable tool that allows us to measure student progress and identify areas where improvement is needed.

It is essential that students arrive at school well-rested and prepared to take the tests. Please ensure that your child gets a good night's sleep and has a healthy breakfast to help them perform at their best.

We also want to remind parents that these tests are just one measure of student progress, and we use multiple sources of data to evaluate student performance throughout the year. While we take these assessments seriously, we encourage parents to view them as one part of a larger picture of their child's academic progress.

3rd through 5th Grade students will take PARCC assessments on these days:

May 9 - 3rd-5th Grade - ELA - Part 1

May 10 - 3rd-5th Grade - Math - Part 1

May 11 - 3rd-5th Grade - ELA - Part 2

May 16 - 3rd-5th Grade - Math - Part 2

May 17 - 3rd-5th Grade - ELA - Part 3

May 18 - 3rd-5th Grade - Math - Part 3

We are asking parents to make sure our scholars in 3rd-5th Grade attend school on all of these days. If you need to visit a doctor, please schedule your visit around these days.

PARCC Assessments for 3rd through 5th Graders are starting next Tuesday, May 9. We held a pep rally today to share students' excitement and encourage them to do their best on the assessments.

Harmony DC is holding Talent Show on June 1. The Talent Show is for everyone! Sign-up to share your talent with the Harmony DC community!

Each member of an act must complete the sign-up form separately. Please agree on an act name before signing up. Each child may only appear in one act. Acts can be no longer than two minutes.

Harmony DC will celebrate Staff and Teacher Appreciation Week next week on May 8-12. The school prepared several activities for staff members. We are asking our parents to show their appreciation to teachers by sending cards and flowers throughout the week and some sweet treats on Wednesday. Please consider sending cupcakes, cookies, candies, and soft drinks. Our staff is thanking you in advance.

Our team is preparing the program for the summer school. We will offer summer school for approximately 40 students in Grades Kindergarten through 5th Grade. The focus will be on reading and math.

Dates: June 23 (Friday) – July 21 (Friday), No School on July 4
Times: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm

Eligible Students: All returning Harmony students and newly enrolled students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade (Rising 1st through 6th Graders)

Registration: Please complete this Interest Form for the summer school by May 19.

Fees: No fees

Harmony DC will inform you by May 26, 2023 if space is available for your child at summer school. You will need to complete a registration form at that time.

Scholastic Book Fair will be open next week. Students could pay with cash or using eWallet.

1st-5th grade students visited Natural History Museum on Friday, April 28. Students are currently learning about plant life cycles, amphibians, and reptiles. Students expanded their knowledge of these topics through this field trip.
