A Note From Our Principal
Welcome New Parents!
Didn’t get a chance to attend our last New Parent Coffee with the Principal?
Make plans to attend the next one on Friday, September 18th at 7:30 am in the Media Center.
Come with questions and learn about why DSES is a great choice for your child.
PTA Volunteer Open House
Are you interested in volunteering at this awesome school?
PTA has room at the table for YOU! Whether you are a stay at home parent or work full time, there is a job for you on PTA.
We work together and have lots of fun coming up with ideas to make our great school even better.
Please attend the PTA Open House on Friday, September 16th at 8:15 in the school Media Center immediately after the New Parent Coffee.
Dismissal Safety – Please assist us by adhering to these policies in order to keep our children safe.
Dismissal changes
Parents, please be reminded of our dismissal/transportation change policy.
Changes in dismissal must be made in writing for the safety of our students.
The front office can provide “dismissal change” forms for you. Any changes
in dismissal must be made by noon each day on the form or signed note delivered by you or your child. You may also fax a signed note to 470.254.4064. We do not accept dismissal changes via email or text. In the event the teacher or staff member
is absent, these forms will not be received. We also need to have signatures on the documents for your child’s safety. The 12:00 deadline provides adequate time for the office to reach out to teachers to notify/ remind them of the changes.
Early Pick Up
The front office becomes extremely busy near dismissal time. We want to be sure to dismiss students properly and use this time to confirm transportation changes for the safety of our children. For this reason, we do not allow early pick up after 2:00 pm. This adds to the confusion and increases the chance of mistakes which lead to safety concerns. If you think you will arrive after 2pm, please plan to meet your child at your neighborhood bus stop.
Thank you for understanding. Your child’s safety is our first priority.

Project Based Learning
PBL Night will soon be here! Thursday, November 10th from 5:30-7:00 will be our first PBL Showcase Night. Come out to support your child’s hard work and see their first projects. Be on the lookout for wild and crazy animals in fifth grade. First grade will be demonstrating how different plants can grow in different environments . All grade levels have been hard at work practicing their presentation skills and are so proud of what they have accomplished. Parents will be given a short list of questions to ask students and we want to see who can visit the most presentations.
Again the date is November 10th from 5:30-7:00!!!
Special Days In the DSES Cafe
Constitution Day will be celebrated this year on Friday, September 16, 2016.
Celebrate Constitution Day on Friday, September 16th in the Cafeteria with a patriotic serving of Red, White, and Blue Berries!
World School Milk Day is Wednesday, Sept 28th!
Testing Informatiion for 3rd and 5th Grades
The Fulton County Schools Assessment Department is pleased to announce that we are moving to a new norm referenced test this school year. Fulton County students have taken the ITBS Form A as part of Fulton County's balanced assessment plan for many years. ITBS Form A was published 15 years ago with content from approximately 1995 and has ten year old norms. In October, students in grades 3, 5, and 8 will be taking the Iowa Assessment Form E. Students will take the test online and schools will receive student level results in a usable electronic format within 5 business days. This school year will become a baseline year for trend purposes. To accommodate online testing and to allow schools flexibility, the testing window is expanded to October 17th through November 4th. Dunwoody Springs ES will develop our schedule in this window and will inform parents of specific dates as more information and communication materials become available in the coming weeks. If you have any questions, please contact our testing coordinator, Ms. Haltrecht.
