Mustang Message October 15th
Read all about it!
If you get a chance - look at the stars (hence the newsletter background) - they've been amazing lately - a true sign that Fall is here!
It has been refreshing to learn so much this week while at Center Elementary - much that I am excited to share with our Leadership Team and our staff. It also confirmed my belief that Mayfield is truly a great place to be and a caring community who goes all in for students. The same instructional and student-oriented conversations are happening here, too like they do at Millridge. I'm happy to return to Millridge today as I'm writing this to all of you!
In talking to Mrs. Evans, here are some great examples of instruction that the Mustangs were a part of this week:
- Fifth graders were on the hunt for patterns in multiplying large numbers, using their number sense skills to tackle challenging problems
- Mrs. Vigliotti empowered second graders to create landscape impressions using tissue paper - many, including Mrs. Evans were impressed with their skills and ability as artists! Other students also designed a chameleon after researching about why they change colors and used agency to determine their color scheme!
- English/Language Art students in fifth grade used talking boards (not using their actual voice) to empathize with the characters from the book they are reading. They spent all of Monday walking around, using boards to communicate their thoughts! What a challenge and distinct feeling they experienced for one day, when others experience this full time!
- Other students in fifth grade also celebrated on the red carpet their accomplishments as authors as they read to the class their most complete piece of writing for the quarter! What great writers they are becoming!
Take a look below for details about a Read-a-Fun (formerly known as Read-a-thon) Fundraiser which starts on October 18th! Let's all be the best readers we can be - reading with your child, your child reading with family, and each reading on their own counts for minutes! We even have an added bonus for those who complete the registration process that is so much fun and I promise will be engaging!
Have a great weekend and see you next week at Parent-Teacher Conferences!

Millridge Reading Fundraiser Kicks Off on October 18th!
Information went home Friday, October 15th with details about how to register your child. We have an incentive that we can guarantee will motivate all to participate!
Each student who is signed up by a parent will be eligible to vote for who will win an all out Trivia battle between Mr. Caroff, Mrs. Cicerchi, Officer Dhillon and Mrs. Gamiere! If a child is registered, they will also be eligible to be selected to silly string everyone but the winner of the Trivia contest! Multiple students per grade level will be drawn at random to win this special prize!
So...if your child wants a chance to silly string these people, we encourage you to register him/her for the fundraiser! Thanks so much for your consideration to participate!
October is National Bully Prevention Month. Schools all over the country are educating students on what bullying is and how to prevent it. At Millridge, Mrs. Gamiere has focused her monthly classroom lessons on educating students on bullying prevention, friendship and kindness. This Wednesday, October 20, we will participate in Unity Day which is being celebrated throughout the country as well to promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion of others. Please wear ORANGE this Wednesday to show your participation and encourage your child to wear orange and show kindness to all.
