A Message from Dr. Heinz
Dear D15 Community:
Our talented District 15 staff continues to work hard to deliver Distance Learning lessons to our students. Lessons take many forms, but are focused on fostering connections amongst classmates and to provide continuity of instruction for students during our school closure mandate.
It is hard to believe we have only 14 instructional days left of the 2019-20 school year. As a District, we have worked extraordinarily hard to shift our whole instructional model to support eLearning during the COVID19 pandemic. The work the entire District has engaged in during these unprecedented times is a source of pride for all of us. Thank you for the many ways in which our larger community has shown their support during these challenging times.
It is not only our students that will be learning in a virtual environment this month. Our teachers will have their first ever virtual Institute Day on Thursday, May 7. It was a heavy lift to shift our Institute Day plan to this platform, but we know it will be worth the effort for staff to come together and learn with their colleagues albeit remotely.
Our Wednesday, May 13 Board of Education meeting will again be virtual and will be live streamed to Facebook and the district website as we normally do. We have 88 employees retiring this year. They have each made an indelible impact on the lives of the students they have touched through their years in District 15. We will honor them at our meeting in June and make sure they know how much we appreciate them as well as how much they will be missed.
Summer construction planning is underway. The work we have scheduled is going to make a real difference in terms of safety for our remaining six schools without vestibules, provide additional classroom and office space in some schools and will include much needed new flooring for others. We are hoping to capitalize on our empty buildings and begin summer construction early. We are already looking forward to unveiling our building improvements to staff and students when we are able to return to face-to-face instruction.
Some District 15 students are eligible to participate in summer school programming which is scheduled to take place in July. At this time, decisions as to whether or not we will be able to conduct summer school have not yet been made. We will inform families if our plans need to be adjusted due to COVID-19.
Thank you for your continued support and collaboration.

As District 15 continues to implement distance learning with students, we would like to understand our parents’ perspective on how things are going.
Food and Cleaning Supply Drive
There are segments of the CCSD15 community that have been hit particularly hard through the COVID-19 pandemic. Dozens of families have contacted the school district and area charities seeking assistance acquiring specific cleaning supplies and food items to aid in keeping their homes safe and healthy.
District 15 will be organizing a supply drive for the families needing assistance and invite you to participate. School buses will be parked in front of each District 15 school on Friday, May 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to collect supplies from those interested in donating.
Requested Supplies:
Hand sanitizer, hand soap and laundry detergent
Disinfectant wipes and sprays
Medical/latex gloves
Face masks
Canned soup
Crackers
Fruit snacks/healthy granola bars
Cereal
Thank you for your continued support of the District 15 community during these extraordinarily difficult times. Together, we will get through this pandemic and emerge stronger as a result.
