The LaPorte Report In Phys Ed
Hello Vinland Dolphins, What a great start in PE this year. We have been working on many important skills already, such as, mindfulness, fitness, and cooperation. A big focus is working on keeping our bodies, brains, and hearts healthy through movement.
And you can learn more about the Adventure Mountain by watching the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2ysjtwPEwk
Keep moving to help your brain, body, and heart!
Warmly,
Ms. La Porte

COVID-19 Updates
COVID-19 Updates
COVID-19 transmission in our greater community remains high. Please remember to keep your child home if they aren’t feeling well. If you aren’t feeling well, or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, stay home and contact your healthcare provider. The Department of Health has a flowchart that can help determine when and how long someone should stay home.
Our families are doing a wonderful job of communicating with our schools and keeping symptomatic children at home. It takes all of us working together to keep transmission out of our schools and minimize close-contact quarantine. At this time we have had zero cases linked to transmission in school. All cases have come from the community. Thank you for your help in keeping our staff and students healthy and safe!
COVID-19 Dashboard
The COVID-19 Dashboard for our school district is now live. The dashboard will be updated each Friday by 5:00pm and will include information through Thursday each week. The dashboard will provide the total number of students and staff currently in quarantine as a close contact, as well as current active COVID-19 cases in each school. We will track the cumulative total number of positive cases for the school year, as well as any confirmed in-school transmission.
You may access the most recent COVID-19 information from our homepage, nkschools.org. Click the “COVID-19” button, or visit nkschools.org/fall2021.
Vaccine and Testing Resources
Vaccine appointments continue to be widely available in our county. Kitsap Public Health is offering COVID-19 vaccine clinics weekly. Visit kcowa.us/vaccine to view the weekly calendar. Find a full list of providers at vaccinelocator.doh.wa.gov.
Looking for COVID testing? If you have symptoms of COVID-19, contact your healthcare provider first to see if you should be tested. KPHD has a list of test providers, and testing sites open throughout the county.
Here is some info for the upcoming school year
We are working on the menu. Even when we are done with the menu, it will be subject to change daily. We, like everyone else, are having supply chain issues. Getting our products in, will be an ongoing challenge.
Free Breakfast and Lunch for all Students
State testing for 4th and 5th graders will happen the week of Oct 11th.

Volunteering Information
As we welcome back our parent and community volunteers, we have new guidelines in place to ensure everyone's safety:
- Due to the lapse of time caused by COVID, all those wishing to volunteer in the North Kitsap School District must reapply.
- All North Kitsap volunteers must:
- Provide their COVID vaccination cards to the District before having access to students and/or buildings
- Be fingerprinted if:
- You are an Options volunteer
- You will be driving students
- You will be accompanying students on any overnight activities
- You are an athletic volunteer
- You will be working one-on-one with any student(s)
IMPORTANT: If any of the above criteria for fingerprinting applies to you, you will not be allowed to volunteer in those capacities until your fingerprint results have been cleared by the Washington State Patrol and the FBI. You will receive additional notification by email from Human Resources when we receive this information.
(If you have been fingerprinted within the past two years, please contact Liz Campbell at ecampbell@nkschools.org)
Directions for Volunteer Packet

Please allow at least 10 business days for your application to be processed.
- Review the following district policies and procedures before volunteering:

NKSD Connected
Dear Vinland families,
We are excited to kick off this school year by introducing NKSD Connected, which will enhance and transform teaching and learning throughout our system by harnessing the power of modern learning tools paired with high-impact instruction.
One element of NKSD Connected is providing every student in our system with a Chromebook. Kindergarten and 1st grade students will keep their Chromebooks in their classrooms while 2nd-5th grade students will take their devices home each night. Our school will begin sending devices home with students September 1, 2021. Cases and chargers will be provided. Students should carry devices in the approved case. Chargers should be left at home. If you do not wish to have your child bring his or her device home, we will provide a location in the school building for your child to check in and out their device nightly.
To make sure children are able to fully engage in their learning, it is essential that they bring their device to school each day fully charged. Because of how we use these tools each day in class, forgetting to bring the device to school will adversely impact your child’s learning environment. If your child’s device breaks or gets lost/stolen, they should report the breakage immediately. A lost device will result in a $300 fee, and a lost charger will result in a $25 dollar fee. Students who did not return their devices last year will not be given a new one until the guardian has informed the school the device is lost.
Finally, we are committed to working with families to get internet access through a mobile hotspot to students currently without internet access at home. Click on the following link to learn more about this process: Emergency Broadband Benefit and NKSD Hotspot Request.
We are thrilled about the countless learning opportunities NKSD Connected will provide. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
All In! Respectfully,
Travis G Smith
