A Memo from Mrs. Doss
We have officially finished our first full week of school! It has been an eventful start to the school year for us. Your children have experienced the "Eclipse Day" with us, ending with us getting somewhat soaked. We had fun learning occurring just the same on this day! The power of a positive outlook no matter the circumstance is always our focus.
Continuing with that theme, we are powered up this year with our "Power of You" centered statements daily at GBE. Our teachers and staff were asked to focus on their powers as Superheroes daily in the lives of your children. We have done the same with the students. Their Power is the "Power to Grow and Learn". It is the most important job they have here each day! You will see and hear several Superhero themed statements, and dress up days! :)
Speaking of dress up days...Since your students are SO SUPER, they maintained "All 5's" on their class shields for Lunchroom behaviors this week, and were able to have a Super Hero Theme T-shirt day today. Woo Hoo! We always work for our Class Shields to be at a 4 or 5 each day as a goal. This is promoted and celebrated for each class to work as a team while at lunch.
Another Goal we have discussed with your students this start of the school year were their STAR assessment scores from the Spring or Summer of last year. Teachers met with students and discussed the last score for Reading and Math, and then set a new goal to maintain. Star testing is finishing up this week, and next week we'll begin our DRA Reading Assessments. These tests are all necessary to obtain our Fall scores, in order to gauge instruction and supports for students.
We want our students to have a good understanding of their learning and setting those goals to make it meaningful to them as well.
As you can tell we have jumped into the new year fast with many things taking place, and a focus this year as a staff and partners with you and your students.
Another way to make this happen for us this year, is our continued offer of Parent Events. The first will be our Curriculum Night taking place next Tuesday, August 29th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. This has been communicated out digitally as well as a flyer sent home. We look forward to seeing you at this upcoming event.
Thank you again for the opportunity to work with each of you!
