Most of Costa Rica's people live in the higher elevation where the temperature is cooler.

History and Government
lots of native Americans lived in present-day Costa Rica before Columbus discovered Costa Rica in 1502. In the north, the various cultures were created by Mayan civilization. Southern groups were more closely related to the indigenous peoples of South America. minerals were scarce in Costa Rica during the arrival of Spaniards. Costa Rica's long traditions of changes in government which makes Costa Rica a democratic island.
