# How to use slope

## What is slope?

Slope is the equation of any straight line, called a linear equation, can be written as: y = mx + b, where m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept. The y-intercept of this line is the value of y at the point where the line crosses the y axis

## Where can you use slope?

From learning slope in math you can almost use it anywhere such as measuring rooftops on houses, or when making a layout of a building you can use slope also. Slope is used almost everywhere!

## How can i make slope into something fun?

Think about this... when skiing or snow boarding your going down hill which can also refer to a negative slope. When riding a lift to snow board, the steepness of a mountain increases, you can relate that as a positive slope. When the steepness of a mountain tends to dial down which means that your ride is almost over that can refer to an undefined slope , and there you have it! You can have fun with slope in so many different ways.

## Reviewing what slope is...

In mathematics, the slope or gradient of a line is a number that describes both the direction and the steepness of the line. Slope is often denoted by the letter m. The direction of a line is either increasing, decreasing, horizontal or vertical. A line is increasing if it goes up from left to right.
