The Washington Eagles
Week of September 1st-September 4th, 2015
From the Eagle's Nest!
Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year in the Neenah Joint School District!
We are so excited to welcome our first class of 4K students to NJSD! Washington ELC will have four classes of 4K, along with three classes of Early Childhood-Special Education and a Preschool Phonology class!
It was wonderful to meet so many of you during our Open House! Thank you for your patience as we handed out bus tags and discussed our drop-off and pick-up procedures. We want our children to be safe and feel secure as they begin their first school experience!
Please understand that the beginning of a new school year always brings some unknowns and little "glitches" that we all need to work through. I am confident that we will be able to figure all of these things out together...as a TEAM!
Please contact me at any time with questions, concerns or suggestions. I also like to hear about the good things that you are experiencing in our program!
Thanks,
Mrs. Nelson
Please mark your calendars!

Drop/Off and Pick/Up Procedures
DROP OFF Procedures:
Doors will open at 8:15 AM/12:00 PM for arrival. Do not drop your child off before
8:15 AM/12:00 PM. Please wait for a staff member to open the door. Please do not ring the buzzer unless you need to enter early to visit the office.
All 4K students being dropped off by an adult should use the door on Franklin Ave. A teacher will greet the children at the door and will assist them into the gym where they will wait with their class for their teacher. We ask that you say your good-byes at the door so we can get children into their school routine once they enter the door. Thank you for your understanding and support with this procedure!
All bus students will come in the doors off of the parking lot. There will be staff members who will assist children directly from the buses to the building. Once inside, 4K children will gather in the gym and EC children will be in the main hallway. Staff members will be present to assist.
All EC and Preschool Phonology students in the M-TH programs
(Mrs. Poeschl’s, Mrs. Rosiejka’s & Mrs. Palau’s classes) being dropped off by an adult should use the door off of the parking lot. Teachers will be in the main hallway to receive your child. We ask that you say your good-byes at the door and not come all the way down the hallway.
PICK-UP Procedures:
Doors will open at 11:00 AM/2:45 PM for dismissal. Please wait for a staff member to open the door. Please do not ring the buzzer unless you need to enter early to visit the office.
All 4K students being picked-up by an adult will be dismissed out of the door on Franklin Ave. Children will be lined up in the gym with their teacher. Once the door is opened, you may proceed into the gym to get your child. PLEASE be sure to let the teacher know before you leave with your child. Anyone who picks a child up from school, who is not a parent, must be on the emergency contact list. (If you need to have a different person pick your child up from school, you will need to call the school and inform the office of this change. This new person will be asked to show an ID before leaving school with your child).
All students who take the bus home will be lined up together according to the animal on their bus tag. Your child’s bus tag will correlate with their bus route(s). RED animals are for IN routes and GREEN animals are for OUT routes. Staff members will walk children out to their busses. Please remember, an ADULT must be present before a 4K student is allowed off the bus. For EC children in car seats, and adult must come on the bus to unbuckle and take the child off the bus.
Thank you for assisting us with these procedures!
Student Absence Procedures

- Please feel free to follow-up with a note upon your child's return to school
Thank you for assisting us with this important matter!
Child Find Screenings
The Neenah Joint School District conducts developmental screenings for all children, ages 2 years 9 months to 5 years old, who reside within the school district. A Child Find Preschool Screening can answer many questions about your child’s development. The purpose of the screening is to provide you with developmental information on your child and to identify children who may need access to our programs at Washington.

- Friday, January 8, 2016
- Friday, February 5, 2016
- Friday, March 4, 2016
- Friday, April 8, 2016
Here is what to expect:
- After you check in, you and your child are taken to a classroom where his/her speech, language, concepts, and motor skills are screened.
- Your child is screened at three different stations by early childhood teachers and a speech-language pathologist.
- During this process you are asked to fill out a parent questionnaire asking about your child’s social-emotional and self-help skills.
- Upon completion of the screening, the results will be shared with parents. If your child’s screening results indicate a potential delay(s) a referral for an evaluation may be initiated and will be discussed at the post screening conference.
- You can help yourself to informational and community resource flyers.
If you have, or know of someone who has, a child who is between the ages of two years, nine months and age five and would like to schedule a screening appointment, you may complete the online child find screening request form. If you have additional questions or need assistance, please call 751-6990 ext. 24100. The screenings are FREE and typically last one hour.
