Emerging Technologies in Education
In June, the Center for Digital Education published an article on how cloud computing and mobile will become mainstream in K-12 education within the next year. The information comes from the 2013 Horizons Report from The New Media Consortium, CoSN and ISTE. Within the report, Six emerging technologies are identified across three adoption horizons over the next one to five years, as well as key trends and challenges expected to continue over the same period, giving educators, school administrators, and practitioners a valuable guide for strategic technology planning.

Tales2Go in Action
Shannon McClintock Miller, Teacher Librarian and Technology Integrationist at Van Meter Elementary School in Van Meter, IA has added Tales2Go to her library resources. Check out this great blog she wrote on implementing Tales2Go in her school. She gives a great example of a fourth grader who checked out Diary of a Wimpy Kid and then listened and read along with Tales2Go. She says, "With the website and app, the audio books within Tales2Go are very easy to search and find. There are a lot of ways one can find what they want to read too." She added, "We are creating and inspiring readers by giving our students and school community one more place to read with Tales2Go"

New and Notable
Nim's Island
Nim lives on an island in the middle of the wide blue sea, shared by only her father, Jack, a marine iguana called Fred, a sea lion called Selkie, a turtle called Chica, and a satellite dish for her e-mail. No one else in the world lives quite like Nim, and she wouldn’t swap places with anyone. But when Jack disappears in his sail boat and disaster threatens her home, Nim must be braver than she’s ever been before. And she needs help from her friends, old and new.
Dressed to Steal - Nancy Drew Girl Detective #22
Young designer Alicia Adams is opening a boutique in River Heights. On the day of the big event, crowds of people press forward, a store window is smashed, and people are injured. Then when an expensive dress is destroyed and the store vandalized, Nancy decides this is a case she’s ready to size up.
Anne of Green Gables
Anne Shirley, the orphan child who brings happiness and love into the lives of her foster family, is one of the most beloved heroines in all literature. This wildly imaginative, red-headed chatterbox tries to fit into the narrow confines of Victorian expectations, but her exuberant spirit keeps leaping delightfully beyond the bounds.
