News from the Library Lady
November 2017
It's been a busy fall in the library!
Did you know kindergarten students love the Gossie and Gertie series? We have read all the books by Olivier Dunrea. http://www.olivierdunrea.com/Gossie---Friends.html Kindergarten students are learning to use the computers in library. They are building confidence for navigating the keyboarding and using a mouse. Computer time is fun for all!
Did you know first grade students love writing stories using PIXIE software? They are also confident at navigating the keyboard and the mouse. This week we practiced typing uppercase letters with the game Keyboard Zoo 2. Grade one students are enjoying a Mac Barnett author study. We love his picture books. Extra Yarn is our favorite. https://www.macbarnett.com/books/
Did you know second grade students are learning about the extraordinary puppeteer Tony Sarg who created the balloons for the Macy's Day Thanksgiving Parade? We read Balloons Over Broadway and discovered the history behind the balloons and the parade. Don't be surprised if your second grader is asking to watch the parade on Thanksgiving day. http://melissasweet.net/?book=balloons-over-broadway Second grade students are becoming expert researchers using PebbleGo to research facts about animals. They are also becoming expert typists using the site Dance Mat Typing for exploring the home row keys.
Did you know third grade students are confident Google drive users? They will be creating Google documents this year. They are also using TypingClub.com to practice keyboarding skills. Third graders are enjoying reading excerpts from the book Wonder together in the library. The conversations about kindness and acceptance have warmed my heart. Third graders love reading! They requested many new book titles for the library that should be arriving any day now!
Thank you for your continued support of the Nayatt library. I am beyond grateful.
Happy Thanksgiving.
