MSC Weekly Update
August 20, 2023
Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year at MSC!
All groups were welcomed and reminded of expectations and rules that will help MSC to be a positive and welcoming place to learn and grow. Our values, beliefs, expected outcomes (VBO) were shared and will continue to be pillars of how MSC operates. These values, beliefs, and outcomes include standing up and owning our actions, being stronger together, and striving to be better every day. MSC building expectations are as follows: 1. Be Productive 2. Be Respectful 3. Be Safe. All students and staff will be held to these expectations, and in doing so, MSC will be a safe and nurturing place to learn and grow.
In the event of a problem or concern, please know parents can reach out to teachers and administrators via email or phone. We are here to serve and make the educational experience for your child a positive one! Contact information is included below in the event you have a question or concern. Have a great year!
News and Notes
Phones and other communication devices - Students are not permitted to use smartphones during the course of the day. Every morning students will be reminded that they are to turn their phones (airpods also) off and put them in their book bags. If a student is seen with a phone after this reminder, they will be directed to turn the phone in for the remainder of the day and returned at dismissal. violations will be handled in the following manner:
1st violation - detention
2nd violation - half day of alternative classroom (AC)
3rd violation - full day of alternative classroom (AC)
4th violation - out of school suspension (insubordination)
Students can request tom use their phone, but must do so before using it in the building. This approach helps to lessen distractions and issues while at school. Thank you in advance for your support with this policy.
Free/Reduced Lunch - I want to encourage every parent to apply for free/reduced lunch. This must be done each year and does not carry over from year to year. Applications can be found on the district webpage at www.gocruisers.org
Dress Code - Please review the dress code! I have reminded students already they are not to wear shirts that do not cover their midsection. Shoulder straps must be wide as well. Students wearing shirts with profanity or inappropriate themes (profanity, alcohol, drug references, explicit sexually) will be sent to the office as well. If parents cannot bring appropriate clothing, students will be sent to alternative classroom (AC) to work for the day.
iReady Testing - Students will be completing iReady testing this Tuesday and Wednesday to establish baselines of readiness for reading and math. Please encourage strong effort on these tests, so students can achieve to the highest level possible over the course of the year!
