The Good News
March 12, 2017 - St. John XXIII School
Leadership Message
Dear St. John Families,
I would like to ask for your prayers as I take a brief leave at Spring Break. I will be recovering from surgery and hope to return in May, taking the month of April to heal. I want you to know that one of our veteran principals, Mr. Michael Smith, will be stepping in to assist with the daily operations of running the school. Mr. Smith has served with EICS for many years. It will be wonderful to have him here!
The timing of my announcement ties in nicely with Father's homily at Mass this weekend. The Gospel reading, Matthew 17: 1-9 speaks about the transfiguration, Peter, James and John saw a glimpse into Jesus’ glory. It was natural that Peter had a desire to stay. Nonetheless, there were other plans for his life. We, like Peter, are called to recognize that God’s timelines and will for our lives may be different than our own inclinations. If we are willing to allow Christ to transform us, we have to trust in the goodness of His plans for us and use our free will to decide to cooperate.
So with that, I have been able to reflect with a greater sense of clarity on how God is working all things for my good through this time of uncertainty. It’s an ongoing process to patiently wait as things unfold, trusting they will happen when and as they should. Just as the disciples fell prostrate, it is important to give praise when we feel a sense of awe upon the recognition of the power of God in our lives.
I have great trust and faith through these experiences and, like Mary, am able to say, “Thy will be done.” Thank you for the prayers - they bring much comfort and are very much appreciated. God bless you all!
In Christ,
Mrs. Melnyk
