LOVE, PURPOSE and ENJOY THE RIDE
As we wrap up our review of the Energy Bus, we will be focusing on Rules 8, 9 and 10 this month. The messages in these last 3 rules are a great way to send us off into the summer as we wrap up this school year with students on Friday.
Rule #8: Love your Passengers
Joy shares the very important understanding with George: In order to truly tap the power of your heart and lead with positive, contagious energy you must LOVE your passengers. Become a love magnet. What does that mean and how does that fit into our district and our roles? It starts with loving your customers, company and family. In our environment, that includes all of our students, staff, families and community. The power is in bringing out the best in each student, each person, that we connect with. When you love someone, you just want to have them shine. Help each one to discover the value they have within themselves. Find the gold that wants to shine! Focus on their strengths and highlight that incredible value. This can increase the value overall to the entire “team” tenfold. Here are the 5 Ways to Love Your Passengers:
1. Make Time for Them (and be Present when you do so)
2. Listen to Them (with your heart and care about what they say)
3. Recognize Them (as a person, not just the role they have)
4. Serve Them (and watch your growth as you serve their growth, future, and spirits)
5. Bring Out the Best in Them (by helping them discover their strengths and provide opportunities for them to use those strengths)
Rule #9: Drive with Purpose
Purpose is ultimately the fuel for our ride. When we internalize our purpose, we can continue moving forward and not get tired, bored or burned out. When you have clear purpose, you can even find the value and excitement in the every day things; finding the extraordinary within the ordinary. As the driver, you have the ability to share your purpose with your passengers; however, having a shared purpose, that the entire team can collectively internalize, will move the entire team forward faster. When everyone sees the shared vision and purpose and brings the powerful force of positive energy all focused in the same direction, the results will be incredible! Will some people be nervous? Absolutely! Nerves are a sign of fear; however, fear is weak energy as opposed to positivity being strong energy. Positivity can overcome fear and nerves in every situation when people focus on the shared purpose and are part of the team. If we focus too much on the things that stress us out, it is far too easy to forget about what we have to be thankful for.
Rule #10: Have Fun and Enjoy the Ride!
There you have it folks! You now have all of the rules to “Fuel Your Life, Work and Team with Positive Energy.” The work can be hard sometimes, but it doesn’t have to be. If we continue to fuel up on positive, we can enjoy the ride of our lives! As I have shared before, it sure will help us all enjoy the life we are living more than the alternative of getting stalled out on the side of the road somewhere on our bus.
As you drive into Summer, I hope you can remember the entirety of my messages. DRIVE your bus in the direction YOU choose to go as you move forward and FUEL it with POSITIVE ENERGY setting your direction using VISION and FOCUS, leaving those that don’t get on the bus and Energy Vampires on the side of the road, using ENTHUSIASM, LOVE, and SHARED PURPOSE to HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THE RIDE!
The ending of a school year brings along much reflection. Hopefully the messages from the Energy Bus can be helpful in that time for you. I know it helps me as I do the same each and every year. THANK YOU for bringing your absolute BEST SELVES to the district each and every day to serve our students, families and community! Each one that you interact with will carry with them the impact of that connection for the rest of their lives. Let’s work together to ensure that is a Positive impact for each and every one of them!
Be Well ~
