Avenging Death
Hamlet, Beowulf and Gilgamesh
Hamlet is a Hero who avenges his father's death.
Hamlet knows the truth of his fathers death. He now knows he cannot trust anyone. We learn the lesson to be careful who you trust from this story. Through trying to cope with his father's death, Hamlet knows he must avenge his death. He must avenge his death not only because the ghost of his father asked him to, but because it's a way for him to deal with the emotional pain.
Beowulf is brave, strong, and fearless.
Beowulf is brave and strong. This is before he goes to defeat the Grendel's mother, he is avenging the death of the man she killed. Instead of mourning and wallowing, he is an emotionally strong person who does something about the pain of these people.
Gilgamesh searches for the answer to immortality.
Gilgamesh is on a quest to find the cure for mortality. He is a brave and fearless man when it come to fighting beasts, but the fear of death is overwhelming to him. Like Beowulf and Hamlet, Gilgamesh is coping, and learns that death is not the end. He learns he needs to embrace the life he has now, and be happy. This is how he understands the emotional pain he feels.
