From the Principal
It is hard to believe that we have completed our first quarter. The month of October was extremely busy for all. I would like to thank all parents that participated in conferences last week, whether that was in person, via Zoom, or by phone. Your participation and support is greatly appreciated not only by staff, but also by your students. We were able to connect with 86% of Chase parents during conferences. If you were not able to attend do not hesitate to reach out to us to reschedule.
As we begin the month of November, we want to let you know of some upcoming dates and activities. The halfway point for Q2 is November 11. Please check in with your student about any missing work they may have. It becomes overwhelming when they get too far behind. Please encourage/help your student with talking with teachers about any missing assignments as well as assignments missed when they are absent. It is important for students to ask for make-up work and make arrangements to get extra help if they need it after returning from an absence. We appreciate your help! The girls basketball season as well as boys soccer season have begun. Students wanting to cheer on these teams may attend home games without a parent, but must be with a parent for the duration of any away games.
We look forward to hearing from you and working together for a positive and successful quarter!
Yvonne Spalding
Principal

Nursing Department Update
The Kansas School Immunization Law (K.S.A. 72-5209 and K.A.R. 28-1-20) requires all students receive the most appropriate inoculations in the required series unless there is a medical or religious exemption. See the Immunization Chart.
Effective October 24, 2022, students who are non-compliant with the current KDHE Immunization schedule, and do not have a Medical and/or Religious Exemption on file, will be excluded from school and school related activities until requested immunizations are received.

Chase PTO Update
Thanks to all of our families who supported the PTO during conferences. Together, with the Chase staff PTO gathered baskets and raffled them off. The PTO was able to gather around $500 during their raffle basket adventure. These funds will be used to support classroom activities and the CMS Winter Olympics. Thanks so much to the staff for all of their support and making this a fun opportunity! The PTO still has a few spirit wear items and trash bags for sale. Those are available in the front office anytime during regular school days.
Personal Belongings
Per the parent/student handbook: Chase Middle School takes no responsibility for lost, stolen or broken personal items. We discourage students from bringing ANY electronic devices (including cellphones and wireless earpods), toys or games to school and they must remain OFF in the classroom. Lasers are not allowed in school. Electronic devices including cellphones and wireless earpods used during the school day will be brought to office by an administrator and secured until the end of day. We discourage parents from sending presents, balloons, flowers etc to their children at school. We do not have a safe place to store these during the day. Our school will not take responsibility for these items.
Cellular phones and electronic devices are not needed at school. No student cell phones can be out in the classroom or hallways during school hours. Wireless earpods cannot be used at school. If a staff member sees a student’s cell phone or wireless earpods, the student will be asked to put them away. If the student refuses, an administrator will be notified to come take the cell phone or earpods to a secure location in the office. Parents will be contacted to come pick up the item(s). Multiple violations of this policy may result in additional consequences. Sharpies or other permanent markers are not allowed on school property and will be confiscated and not returned.
School Messenger Alerts
Topeka Public Schools utilizes the SchoolMessenger system for web services and to deliver text messages to families in the district. Alerts come straight to your mobile phone with important information about your child's school events, inclement weather, and more.
Parents and guardians can participate in this free service* just by sending a text message of "Y" or "Yes" to the TPS short code number, 67587. You can also opt-out of these messages at any time by simply replying "stop" to one of our messages.
SchoolMessenger is compliant with the Student Privacy Pledge, so you can rest assured that your information is safe and will never be given or sold to anyone.
