Woods Weekly
Week of April 4th-8th
Classroom Happenings
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope you had a relaxing Spring Break! It is so hard to believe that we are already one week into the last grading period of the year. Where has the time gone?! Please take a look at the upcoming events.
Students took their STAR Reading and Math tests this week. Their new AR goal has been written in their planners. Please take a look. AR will still count as two test scores this grading period.
Orchestra Recruitment
On Wednesday, April 6th, the fourth grade classes in Valpo will be going to the high school to learn about orchestra. If your child is interested in joining, information will be sent home that explains how your child can get involved. We will be leaving Central at 10:15 and will return by 11:30.
Multiplication Timed Tests and Ice Cream:
The class is off to an AMAZING start on their multiplication timed tests! They have all earned their bowl and are well on their way to earning all of the yummy ice cream and topping choices. Students can practice their math facts in a few different ways; they can use Math Facts in a Flash, xtramath.org, free apps on a mobile device, and/or flashcards. As a reminder, the tests will include 20 problems, and students will have 2 minutes to solve them. Students will be working on mastering their 0s through 12s. The tests will be every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I will announce the sundae party at a later date.
The Box Top Challenge
Central students are participating in a classroom competition to see which class can collect the most Box Tops for Education. Box Tops are an easy way for our school to earn money for the things that it needs. Each box top is worth 10 cents. If you want your child to participate, here is what you need to do:
1. Buy your favorite Box Tops products
2. Cut out the Box Top from each package.
3. Tape or Glue them onto the yellow form that was sent home on Thursday, March 31st.
4. Send the completed form back to school by April 29th.
The class who collects the most Box Tops will win a class prize... and bragging rights.
K-Kids Project:
Does your child have a pile of books sitting at home that he/she has already read? Do you wish you had the opportunity to exchange them for different or more exciting reading materials? If so...
...the K-Kids’ Book Swap is for you!
How it works
From Monday, April 4th to Thursday, April 7th students may bring in any “gently used” books to their classrooms for donation. You may bring up to 10 books. We will track the number of books brought in by each student.
From Monday, April 11th to Wednesday, April 13th students may come to the Book Swap and select any “gently used” books of their choice based on the number of books they turned in.
Book Criteria
Please follow these guidelines when sending in books:
Books must be appropriate for grades K-5.
Books must be in gently used condition: cover on, no rips, tears or bent edges
Books with coloring or writing in them will not be accepted
No coloring books, activity books or sticker books
Please note that the selection of books available will be based on books donated. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Sienkowski.
