#BLACKLIVESMATTER
While we have been focused on ending this school year and preparing for 20-21, we would be remiss to not discuss the unrest that is going on across our nation with the #BlackLivesMatter movement. I think about the conversations we would be having in our classrooms if we were in our physical schools and the important role we play as educators in providing space for students to have conversations and learn about the experiences of others. While we aren't able to do this, there are a number of resources that have been put out for all of us to listen, learn and grow.

PCOE/PUSD June Family Survey
Dear Families,
Please assist us as we gather feedback and current perspectives as we develop plans for the opening of the 2020-21 school year.
While it is certainly too early to know how the health conditions in our area may change over the course of the coming weeks and months, Plumas County Office of Education and Plumas Unified School District is developing a variety of possible plans for different scenarios. Your completion of the survey is very helpful to us. Thank you for taking the time to complete and submit the survey by Monday, July 7th.
As always, thank you for your support!
Department Updates
Food Service
The Food Service Department continues to serve each community in Plumas County, with site pick up and meal delivery routes available through August 21st. We are able to provide this service through the Seamless Summer Option under the National School Lunch Program and USDA, averaging over 5000 meals per week countywide.
See the site pick up and delivery schedule here.
We plan to provide breakfast and lunches over the summer as the need continues. We are diligently working in the kitchens preparing meals daily but also getting ready for whatever the new School Year may present to us. We appreciate your patience as we work through this pandemic together. It is our pleasure being able to serve our students and kids in our communities.

New Chester Elementary School Principal, Diana (Colly) Fischer, has joined the PUSD family. She is coming to Chester from Chico and is looking forward to being a part of Plumas Unified School District.

Student Services
Happy Summer from the Student Services Department! Extended School Year is up and running in a distance learning format this year, thanks to our amazing teaching staff! I’d like to thank parents and families for their support and hard work during this challenging time. In any given school year, the role of parents and families is essential for promoting academic success, but in this unprecedented year, Plumas County parents have really done an incredible job helping their children be successful.
In early August, we will be sending out a survey for parents that targets the unique needs of students with disabilities. Your input will be essential in ensuring a smooth transition back to in-person services for your child. Please also feel free to call the Department and schedule a time with me to discuss any questions or concerns you might have that don’t lend themselves to survey responses.

Helpful information
Have you completed your census yet?
A census under-count may deprive communities from much needed resources. In fact, it has been estimated that for every person not counted, counties such as Plumas may lose up to $2,000 in Federal funding per year, for the next ten years.
The 2020 Census is currently underway. As of today, 33.1% of Plumas County residents have responded. Unfortunately, this figure is 30% points lower than the state average of 63%. Residents in urban areas have responded well, let's make sure we are represented as well.
Be counted!

Parents and Families:
The Student Services Department is committed to making the transition back to school next year as smooth as possible for students with disabilities, English language learners, foster youth, and students experiencing homelessness. Over summer, we will be providing information about how we will make sure that we maintain services and communication with families and the community.
If you have questions or concerns about your child’s educational program next year, please send Kevin Bean, Director, an email at kbean@pcoe.k12.ca.us.
