In reading and LA class, we will be heading into Unit 5 of My Perspective. Unit 5’s theme is Facing Diversity. Throughout this unit, we will be answering the essential question, “How do we overcome obstacles?” We will begin with the launch text “Against the Odds”, practicing new vocabulary words, and answer comprehension questions to show our understanding of the text.

Course 2 students (2nd, 4th, 10th periods) will continue working in the Geometry unit as our focus turns to the Area of Composite Figures and Volume of Prisms.
Accelerated math students (3rd period) will start to work with Slope and Slope-Intercept Form before getting a brief intro into Geometry at the end of the week.
REVEAL math students (8th period) will continue working with Probability, but with a focus on Simulating Compound Events. We will have a short quiz near the middle of the week on all of the Probability that we have discussed so far.

Next week we will continue learning about Westward Expansion. We will start the week by learning about the Louisiana Purchase, and then move into the annexation of Florida and Texas. Toward the end of the week, we will learn about Oregon Country and the Mexican-American War.
SCIENCE
After finishing up March Mammal Madness this week (ask your student who the ultimate champion was); we will spend next week refreshing our memory on genetics concepts. A study guide will be given out Tuesday for Friday’s summative assessment.
