Random Acts of Kindness Week.
- Feb. 14-20, is Random Acts of Kindness Week. During this week, our schools will be conducting food drives to support Backpack Beginnings, which has supplied more than 3,500 cans of food just this school year to food pantries. School social workers are coordinating this effort.
- You can help by contributing one can, one dollar or one hour of your time. If each employee gives just one dollar, all 13 of the schools on the waiting list for a food pantry would be able to establish one. To make a donation and to learn more, visit www.backpackbeginnings.org or talk to your school social worker.
- The Character Development team has also partnered with School Wrap!/Snack Wrap! and the School Garden Network to address issues of food insecurity in our community. School Wrap!/Snack Wrap! allows volunteers to collect untouched food and donate it to community agencies or for use within the school. About 70 of our schools have school gardens, allowing students to learn about nutrition and how plants grow while feeding others at the same time. If you’d like to get involved with these efforts, contact the Character Development office at 370-8397.
- With your help, our community does not have to go hungry. Thank you for your efforts to support children and families in need.
