Shepard News & Notes
December 8, 2017
Hello Shepard Families:
This season is full of opportunities to give! One way we're encouraging students to give locally is through our support for "Give Where You Live"--a yearlong campaign spearheaded by Deerfield Mayor Harriet Rosenthal linking volunteers to local communities.
Mayor Rosenthal has asked each Deerfield 109 school to collect an item, and Shepard is collecting pairs of socks for the less fortunate. So, please send in socks to help the less fortunate keep warm in the winter months! We're collecting through January 12.
Warm Regards,
John1st Posting - Teen Technology: Use and Misuse
January 9, 2018 from 7-8pm
Shepard Middle School
Co-sponsored by Deerfield Parent Network
Justin Patchin, Ph.D., founder of the Cyberbulling Research Center, will cover how youth use and misuse technology to cause harm to their peers. He will define and provide examples of cyberbullying and discuss the role of parents in preventing and responding to inappropriate online behaviors. The presentation also will describe many of the online environments popular among adolescents today and provide strategies you can use use to help your children navigate those environments safely and responsibly. Dr. Patchin will work with students at Caruso and Shepard during the school day on January 9 and 10, so parents and students will learn similar information and hear similar messages.
Though the focus of this presentation is on middle school issues and student behaviors, all parents are welcome.
