We Are Called
Sept. 30, 2021
From Mrs. Rhodes
Angel of God, my Guardian Dear, to whom God's love entrust me here - ever this day, be at my side, to light, to guard, to rule and guide. Amen
Saturday is the feast of the Guardian Angels and I am sad that we aren't in school for it. October has some great saints to celebrate! Saturday is the feast of the Guardian Angels and I am sad that we won't be in school to talk about them. Monday is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi and Fr. Pat will bless your pets bright and early in the courtyard (7:30 arrival, blessing at 7:40). October is also the month of The Rosary. We celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on Oct. 7. Praying the Rosary is comforting because it involves beads moving between our fingers and at times of distress, repetition helps. There are many places you can listen to the Rosary. The School of Faith daily podcast of the Rosary is done differently to teach about our faith. You can find it at: schooloffaith.com. You can sign up to have it texted or emailed each day.
They are having an event coming up on Oct. 17, called a Rosary Rally Tailgate with Eucharistic Adoration with Fr. Andrew Strobl. It starts at 5:00 at Fiorella's Event Center in Overland Park with music and good conversation. 6:30-7:30 will be The Rosary/Adoration under the stars!
We enjoy bringing our kids to events like Chiefs Games or Royals Parades to get excited with a large group. This event will show them that there are many fellow Catholics that cheer for the same Catholic team.

From our Counselor
I was reminded in a huge way this week how truly blessed I am to be part of this Sacred Heart community. As the school counselor, I get to see first-hand the way our teachers and staff care for our students and strive every day to learn how to meet each student where he or she is as a learner and a child of God. There is a depth of care and love that exists within the walls of Sacred Heart School that I haven’t seen or felt in my previous places of work. I know it is the presence of God that we invite wholeheartedly each day, but it also comes from knowing that we are family. This week, we are grieving the loss of a special member of our family. And while the void is real and comes with sadness and confusion, I am witnessing true faith walking these halls; God’s work in our teachers, students, and staff to which they are responding with relentless compassion, hope, and love. In this place of great learning, it is refreshing and inspiring to know that our student’s emotional and spiritual health is held with utmost importance. If you or your student is struggling with or any loss in their life, please reach out. I am here to help.
Many blessings,
Lori Schierts

From the Nurse
There are zero covid cases again this week-yay! We continue to have our rapid covid testing supplies available to test students who have had an exposure but are not having any symptoms, so they can avoid quarantine at home. I will discuss your situation with you to determine if your child is eligible to be tested at school. Please continue to make smart decisions in regard to keeping our school safe and healthy, such as frequent handwashing, keeping sick children at home and all of the other mitigation strategies that help prevent the spread of contagious illnesses.
Please make sure your child (ren) have a water bottle EVERY single day. I am having a large amount of kids each day come in, sometimes not until the afternoon, asking for water. It is vital to every body function to be drinking water throughout the day and can be dangerous in high temperatures and dry air if they are not getting enough fluids.
Another important topic I would like to discuss is medication administration at school. I have several OTC medications in my office that I can administer to students whose parents have consented. Those medications include: ibuprofen (liquid and tablets), acetaminophen (liquid and tablets), oral antihistamine (liquid), TUMS chewables, triple antibiotic ointment and hydrocortisone 1% cream. All other OTC medications will need to be given before or after school. If there are extenuating circumstances about an OTC medication needing to be given while at school that I don’t have, please contact me first to discuss before sending anything with your child. If your child needs to be given a prescription medication at school daily or as needed, I MUST have a labeled medicine bottle or box with the child’s name, the medication, the dose and the time it is to be given. I will not administer an unlabeled prescription medication to a student under any circumstance.Additionally, please email attendance@shoj.org or mary.hungerford@shoj.org if your child (ren) will be tardy, absent or leaving early.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help or if you have questions.
