Curriculum Corner
Reading:
- This week is Unit 5, Week 2 and we are continuing our focus on point of view as well as prefixes and suffixes. We will be reading a biography in class this week.
- We will be spending time daily this week preparing for IREAD. We will look at passages and questions similar to those seen on the IREAD test. We will also discuss testing strategies to help students be successful.
Spelling:
- This week's spelling focus is inflectional endings (-ing, -ed, -s). Please study nightly with your child. The test will be on Friday. Your child may like to use Spelling City to practice their words. Follow the link below and use Amber Fleck's name to find the word lists.
Grammar/Writing:
- We are working with pronouns this week...we will especially focus on I and me.
In writing, we continue to focus on informative writing.
Last Friday your child brought home a POW to be written from a leprechaun's point of view. With this POW, I am asking that you take a step back when revising and let's see what your child can do. He/she still needs at least 5 revisions - not spelling, capitals or punctuation. Ask them about adding more details, interesting verbs, or changing a statement to a question.
- Please continue to work on multiplication and division facts at home. Mastery of 100 multiplication facts in 5 minutes is a standard for third grade!
- We are continuing our study of fractions! We will wrap up fractions this week after spending 6 lessons on them!
Science:
- We are studying different types of energy in Physical Science Chapter 4. Study guides will come home on Tuesday, and our test will be on Friday, March 13. Students can study using the Quizlet link below or through Canvas.

Kindness Challenge
This year, students at Ireland Elementary will be completing the Kindness Challenge again. We did this challenge a few years ago, and I am positive we can all complete the challenges this year! This week's challenge is...
Write a thank you note to the principal or office staff.
At the end of each week, students who have completed the Kindness Challenge for that week will get to put a sticker up for that act. Kindness is free...sprinkle that stuff everywhere!
