As we all come back together

Change is scary and coming all back together...two different cohorts...double the kids...is nothing we have taken lightly. As I have stated before the safety of your child is at the top of our priority list. We will take the time to meld the two cohorts together, allowing them to get to know each other, rekindle and create new friendships. Our teachers are ready and excited for the opportunity to teach ALL our hybrid students every day. When we all reconvene we will need to practice patience and understanding with each other. This includes drop-offs in the morning and pick-ups in the afternoon. I expect there to be a wait so please plan accordingly, as we will have your student in and out of the school as quickly as possible. The classrooms will look different too. Each desk will be spaced 3 feet apart to maintain the guidelines set by the CDC. Though the classrooms may look different...they will FEEL closer to what we once knew it to be. Our social work intern Mrs. Smith took the time to give each person in our building, student and staff, a puzzle piece. She wanted to signify that we are individually unique, but together complete. I cannot wait to feel the energy in this building on April the 5th! Thank you for all you do and will continue to do!

Kona Ice welcomes our students back!

Kona Ice will join us during lunch times on April 9th to welcome our students all back in. Proceeds will come back to support our schools PBIS programming. We will limit size options to the Kiddie for $3 and the Klassic for $4. We want to make sure students have time to eat what they purchase and are not throwing away a lot of extra.

News from our Nurse

Hello, Pickerington Elementary Families!

If your child is absent from school for reasons due to COVID-19, please be sure to call the School Nurse, Melanie Thompson at 614-548-1408 as soon as possible. You may also reach her by email at melanie_thompson@plsd.us

Additionally, if you have questions about the quarantine period for those family members who have tested positive or for those who have been exposed to a COVID positive person, please call the school nurse. Determining the correct quarantine period is key to preventing the spread of the virus.

Both of these are very important when recording absences and tracking COVID-19 cases in the school building. We appreciate everyone's help in assuring that we keep our school safe and our students and staff healthy.

Pickerington residents will decide the future of Pickerington Schools with the May 4 ballot issue. A rapidly growing community is leading to a rapidly growing student body and many of our schools are already at capacity. The ballot issue represents our Plan for Progress and will fund solutions to the District’s facilities needs including:

  • the construction of a new junior high school, which would allow for the subsequent redistribution of the student population to alleviate overcrowding.
  • reconfiguration of the current Ridgeview Junior High to house elementary school, middle school, and Gateway Academy (gifted) students.
  • reconfiguration of Heritage Elementary to house a special needs preschool and the Welcome Center.
  • 18-24 classrooms built at both high schools and additional cafeteria space at Pickerington High School Central.
  • All buildings would receive some updates to accommodate flexible learning environments.
  • Additions or upgrades to current junior high and high school extracurricular spaces.
  • New secure entryways would be constructed at both high schools.

If you have a question we haven’t answered yet, please send us an email to ask@plsd.us, and you may see your answer on a future video!

Information about voting is available at: www.VoteOhio.gov. The voter registration deadline is April 5 and early voting begins April 6.

2021 Online Kindergarten Registration Starts March 15

Please note: all families (whether new to the district or with existing students) should begin the kindergarten registration process by using the online registration form located on the PLSD website on March 15.

Kindergarten registration for fall 2021 begins in the district on Monday, March 15 (The link is active now but the dropdown menu for 2021-2022 registration will not be available until the morning of March 15).

Children must be a least 5 years old by August 1, 2021, to be registered for kindergarten this fall. The district offers half-day kindergarten both morning and afternoon sessions. Parents may request a morning or afternoon preference. Depending on the number of parents with preferences, a lottery may be held to determine placement.

The kindergarten registration process begins by filling out the online registration form that goes live on March 15. Access to the kindergarten registration system will be open by approximately 9 a.m. that morning. After completing the application — including uploading required documents — please submit the application. Once submitted, Welcome Center staff will review the application and contact you by email if there is anything else needed.

If all is complete, an email will be sent to the parent stating the application has been approved/Processed, and the paperwork will be forwarded to the appropriate school. Someone from the school will contact you regarding the next steps.

At this time, parents will not be setting up an appointment for a readiness assessment. Those assessments will be scheduled at a later date still to be determined.

Parents are advised that, due to the high number of calls, our staff and phone lines at the Welcome Center may be very busy at the beginning of kindergarten registration. We appreciate your patience!

Find complete information about kindergarten registration on our website.
