Week 5 - September 19 - 23, 2016

What We're Learning

Math: We're connecting number words, numerals, and quantities and determining if order matters when we count. We're developing strategies for accurately counting and keeping track of quantities up to 12.

Reading: We're making predictions based on the cover, title, and illustrations of a text. We're generating rhymes orally, and we're identifying common sounds that letters represent.

Popcorn Word: the

Writing: We're learning that letters are formed from left to right and top to bottom. We're learning to write our own name using a capital letter for the first letter only.

Science: We're learning about our five senses and how they can help us understand the world around us.

Home-School Connection...

Your child has learned that there are 3 ways to read a book: 1. Read the pictures (make up a story based on the pictures), 2. Read the words, 3. Retell the story. Students are asked to read for 15 minutes each night. They can use any of the 3 ways to read, and you are encouraged to read to them as well. Please make sure to record the minutes that are read in your child's agenda in the Reading Log section. We're currently recording minutes for Week 5. If you haven't been recording the worries...just start with Week 5.

Classroom Needs

  • items for the treasure box (ex. coloring books, unused kid's meal toys, playdough, plastic jewelry, matchbox cars)
  • stamp pads - variety of colors
  • toilet paper cardboard tubes
  • paper towels
