Message from the principal
June 5, 2020
Dear Hornet Nation,
We have good news! We have been given the go-ahead to collect textbooks, materials and allow you to retrieve items from your locker. Thank you for your patience. The collection will take place at Great Mills High School on June 9, 10, 11. Due to the current restrictions related to COVID 19, this will be done in a very strict and organized fashion. Please read the entire contents of this letter and follow all instructions and times. If you have any questions regarding the collection of these items please email your grade level Assistant Principal.
You may return textbooks and other school items ONLY during the time frame in which your name has been assigned (see schedule below). If you cannot make the time slot given to you, please contact your grade level Assistant Principal to make arrangements. If your only reason to return to the building is to retrieve textbooks already in the building (classroom, locker); you do not need to come to the building. All textbooks in the school will be scanned with student’s names being removed from the debt list.
When dropping off your items, you must wear a mask and maintain social distancing guidelines (minimum of 6 ft apart) the entire time you are on the Great Mills HS campus. This is to protect your safety and the safety of those around you.
All CDC guidelines will be followed. CDC Guidelines linked here.
A maximum of 10 students will be allowed inside the school at one time. When you arrive at GMHS, please park in the bus loop or the student parking lot. Students may exit the vehicle and check-in with the staff member. Only students will be permitted in the building. You will enter through the main lobby doors near the main office and exit through the same doors.
All textbooks must be dropped off in the school media center. Tables will be designated for subject ie--social studies, math, English, etc..); please place the textbooks onto the tables that correspond with each subject.
Students who have an SMCPS laptop will return those laptops to the media center. Only return laptops if you are finished your work. We will make arrangements to return them at a later date if needed.
Classrooms will be locked. Classrooms will not be accessible due to teacher personal belongings. A student needs to locate an administrator or safety team member if they need to get into a classroom.
If you have a locker to clean out, need to take items home, and/or have items to dispose of; please bring a large bag from home to put your items in and take home with you. We will not have trash cans available for you to throw items away.
All restrooms will be locked.
Preordered Yearbooks will be available for pick-up at a table under the awning at the front entrance. Please pick these up first and put the yearbook in the car before entering the building.
Medication: Please email nurse Michaels pmichaels@smcps.org to arrange for pick-up. Parents will need their photo ID and students cannot pick-up medication.
Band instruments will be available for pick-up in the band room.
Athletic Uniforms/Gear -If you have to return athletic uniforms or any type of gear, students are to go to the gym to check in the item and place it in the proper storage bin.
We will have only 10 students scheduled in the building at a time. Please drop off and retrieve your items and report back to your vehicles in a speedy but safe fashion so that we can do this in the most efficient manner possible. If you do not have anything to drop off or pick up, please do not report to the school.
*If you have several children attending Great Mills who either are in different grade levels or who may have different last names; all children may come at the same time that is most convenient to you.
