EMCSD Bulletin

Community Edition

Message from Dr. Maribel Garcia

Dear EMCSD Community,

Welcome to the EMCSD Bulletin - Community Edition! The EMCSD Bulletin is the District’s new monthly newsletter designed to share information and strengthen our partnership with our community by showcasing all the great happenings and resources in the El Monte City School District.

In these newsletters, you will find pictures, videos, and stories of different events and activities at our schools as well as in your children’s classrooms. We’re also going to use our newsletter to collect resources and services that our District and community partners provide, including the Jeff Seymour Family Center, the City of El Monte, Los Angeles County, and more. This newsletter will have something for everyone from District events, student and parent workshops, COVID-19 resources, mental wellness tips, and family-friendly activities.

This past year, we’ve faced many challenges together and they've only made our school community stronger. Our students and staff consistently rose to the occasion to do amazing work that should make us all proud and deserves to be highlighted. This month’s newsletter alone has some great content for you to enjoy, especially our reopening slideshow that showcases our students’ first week back at school! You can find the slideshow right below this message.

I’m very excited to launch this newsletter with you because I believe it will give you all a closer look at all the wonderful things our District has to offer!

With gratitude,

Dr. Maribel Garcia

Superintendent, El Monte City School District

EMCSD HITS 4 MILLION MEAL MILESTONE

It's official, the El Monte City School District has surpassed the 4 million meal mark! 🙌

Our Nutrition Services team has worked tirelessly to make sure the children in our community are getting the nutritious meals they need on a daily basis, and we can't celebrate them enough for reaching this extraordinary milestone! The District thanks everyone who has helped make this achievement possible, and let the countdown to 5 million begin!

Cortada Spring Craft Fair Event

Cortada Elementary students participated in a Spring Craft fair! The virtual fair was hosted by the Student Lighthouse advisors Alyson Varela, Adolfo Diaz, and Jeannette Salas and Student Leaders Abigail Fabela, Brianna Ponde Padilla, and Mariafernanda Valadez, who each led a group of students through a butterfly craft. Students were able to talk about their Spring traditions, their favorite holiday candy, and were even visited by a cotton-tailed friend! Cortada teachers and staff also donated materials to put Spring baskets together, which were then raffled to the group of excited students.

April newsletters revolve around the theme, "Sharpen the Saw" which focuses on enhancing the best version of yourself! From self-care practices to finding healthy habits for your body and mind, this issue is great for the whole family! We've also added a section for parents that highlight the best ways to talk to your children about racism and violence. With recent events, especially against the Asian community, we wanted to support parents whose children may have questions or concerns about what they're seeing or hearing.
