Mountainside HS Students Learn Japanese Food Preparation at Benihana
Students in the Culinary program at Mountainside High School became honorary Benihana Sushi Chefs on March 7, 2019. Benihana staff taught students sushi rolling, Japanese dining etiquette, including the “Do’s and Don’t of Chopsticks” as well as a few simple phrases to use when dining in a Japanese restaurant.
Each student wore a Benihana apron and red embroidered chef toque to look and feel like an authentic sushi chef. Students learned to make a classic California Roll, arguably the most popular sushi roll in America and considered a “starter” roll for sushi aficionados. They then progressed to a more sophisticated “Crunchy Roll” featuring shrimp tempura filling, crunchy topping and drizzled with eel sauce.

In order to be certified to receive moon rock samples (only 440 kg. currently on Earth ) he had to go to NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) facility at the California Institute of Technology and train in lunar geology, space science activities for students, and pass several layers of security procedures and protocols.
