Ms. Bedsole's Homeroom Update

5th Grade, Room 312

3rd Nine Weeks

The second half of the school year has begun, I cannot believe it! I say it every year, but this year seems to be flying by!

We have a lot of fun, exciting things going on the second half of the year. Be on the look out for some of those events!

Progressbook

Please check Progressbook on a regular basis. That is where you will find homework, important information, and grades. I have talked to students a lot about taking responsibility of their own learning and keeping up with their assignments/grades.

For me, no grades are posted yet (since this is only the first week of the new nine weeks), but definitely check back next week! :)

If, for some reason, you cannot access Progressbook, please send me an email or a Dojo message, and I will get you your login information. All students have this information written in their planners.

Class work and Homework Policy

Earlier this week, I sent home a Class work and Homework Policy sheet that needed to be signed and returned by today. I meant to get a message out there sooner about this, but most of the students have already turned it in...hooray!

We talked in depth about the "new" policies, compared to what we did the first and second nine weeks. The students agreed that the policies were fair, and they are still given PLENTY of chances to make things up and turn things in.

I will attach the policy in the email, just in case it gets lost in the shuffle somewhere.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me!

Rube Goldberg Competition

A flyer was sent home to students yesterday who were interested in participating in the Rube Goldberg Competition. If you do not know what a Rube Goldberg machine is...look it up! They are SUPER cool!

Not every student took an application. It's okay if they didn't, this is something I want them to do on their own without any pressure. Some students didn't take one because they said they are on a sports team and do a lot of other things after school...and I appreciate them being responsible and not putting too much on their plates.

And for some students, it just simply isn't their "thing" (as some of them said).

Either way, I will attach that application as well. The deadline to turn in that would be Monday, January 26th. If your child is interested, please read over both pages very carefully. This isn't a club I am starting here at school, this is something that the students will be working on at home with their groups, and may come up some mornings to work on.

Again, any questions? Please ask me!

Upcoming Events/Important Information

Thursday, January 29 @10:05 - Award Ceremony. (A flier was sent home yesterday if your child made A or A/B Honor Roll).

Friday, January 30 - Report Cards go home. We are aware that the award ceremony is before report cards. The county changed the date on us, and we had already scheduled the ceremony. So check progressbook if you are unsure what grades your child has!

Saturday, February 7 - Beautification Day. Come help make our school even more beautiful!

Wednesday, February 18 - Boosterthon Pep Rally in the gym. This is during the day and for our students only! :) Be on the look out for information on that fundraiser.

Thursday, February 19 - 6:00-7:30 - Black History Month Celebration in the gym.

Friday, February 27 - Boosterthon Fun Run for the kids!
