Principal's Message

Hello Sunset Lake Families,

We continue working on wrapping up our year with end-of-the-year lessons and assessments as well as lots of FUN!:)

This week our upper-el field day activities were a huge success. Thank you, Mrs. Getsinger and Mrs. Jones for all the hard work you put into this special event. I also want to thank all the families for respecting our distancing from our students. Our 3rd-5th graders had such a great time.

Thanks to our VCS Virtual Teachers for celebrating our end of the year with your special parade. It was great to see our teachers and students see one another in person for many for the first time. What a great celebration after such a difficult year!

Thank you to our PTSO President, Krystle Chabitch, for all your hard work in making sure our students received their Walk-A-Thon prizes. We have had extra P.E. time, dunk tank fun, class parties, and treats.

We are looking forward to celebrating our 5th Grade Leaders at their Sunset Lake 5th Grade Graduation Monday morning June 7th. We are happy to share that every student can have 4 guests and the whole PAC will be opened for us that morning. We ask that families sit together and leave 3 seats between themselves and other families. Thank you!

We also had some fun with our grand LEAD ticket drawing. Take a look at our short video announcing the names of our lucky winners. Thank you Mrs. Kessler for all your work to make this possible!

Be sure to take a look at our Special Dress Up Days our Student Lighthouse Team created for our last week of school. *Picture of the flyer posted below.

Please be sure to take a look at the Big Read Machine schedule we have listed in this SMORE edition. Having your child read throughout the summer is one of the best things you can do to help avoid the "summer-slide" our students may experience during the extended break in the summer.

This is our last edition of our regular Sunset SMORE. Next week we will share out a special edition of SMORE focussed on Summer Learning and Family Habit Fun to keep our Sunset Lake leaders growing!

Please help us reduce the spread of COVID-19 by constant monitoring of your child's symptoms each morning and reviewing the Student Screener shown below. We ask that you keep your child home if you suspect a possible exposure and if anyone in your household is waiting for test results.

PLEASE be sure to ALWAYS contact our office if your child is going to be absent from school so we can track reasons for absences and any possible cases.

Please visit this link at the State of Michigan Covid for up-to-date information.

Together we can work to minimize exposure for our students and staff. Thank you!

Thank you Sunset Lake Families!

Yours in Learning,

Amie McCaw

Virtual Learning Updates

CONGRATULATIONS KVIC students for completing your year. We wish you a safe and restful summer. We hope to see you back in the fall for what we hope to be a more "normal" school year. *Please note that your family should have received the VCS Family Survey for the fall Return to School plan. Please contact our office if you did not receive the survey. Thank you!

VCS Virtual: Last day of school is June 10th. We hope your families are able to participate in the special drive-through event our Virtual Teachers organized for next Friday at Sunset Lake's front bus ramp area. It does seem we still have a few items for pick-up so please check with your child's teacher if you are unsure if your child has materials to pick up. .
