Jim Marshall with Cody's Gifts Parent Presentation
Mr. Marshall spoke to the student body of FMS during Red Ribbon Week. We know how important his message is and invited him back for a parent session on December 15th. This is the same evening as the FMS School Dance. We hope that parents/guardians will plan to attend this event. More info coming soon!
Missouri Connections
Round Two! Counselors went into classes on November 27th, 28th, and December 1st to meet with 7th and 8th grade students to do lessons in Missouri Connections. Feel free to go to missouriconnections.org and login as a guest to find all the cool stuff the website has to offer. Preparation is key! 7th graders focused on the Career Cluster Inventory Assessment and Reality Check while 8th graders moved on to start researching specific careers. In January we will go back into 8th grade classes to play a game to help student understand high school terms and opportunities like "credit", "vo-tech" or "prerequisite". Our final lesson with 8th grader will be in the afternoon on 01/19 following Stepping Up to Success. In January 7th graders will also begin looking at specific careers and eventually talk about high school and graduation requirements.
Stepping Up To Success 8th Grade!
On January 19th, 8th graders will have the opportunity to meet with different career professionals to hear about their jobs and discover if that is something they might be interested in doing. Also students will be able to hear from high school club leaders and coaches to start looking for ways they can get involved at the high school level. In the afternoon, students will have the chance to tour the high school, and begin the process of their first Individual Career and Academic Plan (previously known as 4 year plan).

7th Grade Band:
The students have began preparation on the music for the December concert. There are things that we can still work on as a group and I think a quick conversation at home from parents about talking in class would be beneficial!
I am enjoying getting to work with this group and we are starting to think about solos for Central Methodist University Music Festival. I am going to give them the music and they are to be able to play me their solo before Christmas break, if they cannot at least play through it they will not be allowed to attend the festival. Scheduled time with me for rehearsal will be given next week.

News From the Art Room
Students have been wrapping up on projects and jumping into new ones across the board. Even non Art students have been getting in on the kindness mission, and have had a lot of great kindness posters created and put up throughout the building the last few weeks. We have had a lot of discussion in class as well about kindness.
6th Grade are working in watercolor, and discovering techniques through drawing and paining fruit panels. We are finishing these up, and will be moving into a little more artistic freedoms. We will wrap up next week with a little group work and friendly competition. More news next week.
7th Grade is learning about balance and positive and negative space in Art by creating Japanese Notan Art. They are finalizing past projects as well, and we are going to be looking at some mini projects next week.
8th Grade is working on what a strong composition looks like by breaking down an object into four panels, and giving me details about a subject without drawing the actual object as a whole. Next week they will be working on craft holiday trees, and we will have a few mini lessons as well as kindness art acts.
We have reviewed school wide expectations as well as expectations in the classroom, it is always a good topic for discussion. All classes have been very attentive and respectful the last few days after we have been reviewing them. The extra conversations you can have at home really do make a difference and I am grateful to all the parents who support and send me weekly check ins and check ups.
As always any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me cchapman@fulton58.org
Artfully yours,

As we gear up for winter: Hats, gloves, scarves, and coats.
Snack items: Slim jims, and pop tarts.
Other needs are ear buds and water bottles.
We will be gearing up for the holiday season so baskets to make gift packages for students to purchase would be great.
