Recent Updates from Texas Education Agency...

The Importance of the First Weeks of School...

Rituals and routines are so essential to starting your year off right! Your classroom should be one in which students are having rich academic conversations. Knowing when non-academic talk and academic talk should take place is one of the most important things to teach students. Let students help you identify when each type of conversation is appropriate and create a class anchor chart to help remind the class throughout the year. A sample chart might look something like this! Join us as we explore more resources, strategies, and ideas at the "Teaching Kids to Talk...About the Right Things" workshop on October 17th. (Click here to register.)

Exciting Opportunity for Elementary Science Teachers...

Region 17 Kindergarten through 5th grade teachers are invited to join us as authors Donna Farland-Smith and Julie Thomas present lessons and concepts from their books Eureka! and Eureka! Again! This opportunity is made possible through a grant from Bayer Fund which will sponser the authors, provide you with the grade level appropriate Eureka! or Eureka! Again! resource, and provide literature books to supplement your classroom libraries! As part of the grant, we will survey students to see how their perceptions of STEM related activities change when introduced to concepts through the use of children's literature. Teachers will reflect on how they use the books that are represented in the Eureka! resources and how they adapt other lessons to include literature connections. Space is limited to 30 participants in each grade band so sign up today! Click on these links to register:
