Summer 2021 Science and STEM Professional Development Opportunities!

Summer STEM Cohort, 2021

Come be a part of the inaugural South Plains STEM Cohort! Many opportunities will be open to these participants this summer and, if funding continues, there will be more to come. Our K-12 science TEKS are being rewritten right now and learning through the Engineering Design Process will be a part of those new expectations (implemented in '23-'24 or '24-'25). So get a head start and start learning how to embrace STEM in your teaching! Click here for more information. Applications due by May 14th.

These opportunities to learn about the integration of STEM and the math and science TEKS are for all educators. You do not have to be a part of the STEM cohort to participate! Read each description to identify the target audience.

Panhandle STEM Conference - Summer 2021

Tuesday, June 29th, 9am to Wednesday, June 30th, 4pm

Our conference will be back in Amarillo this summer and as of today, we will be hosting it Face-to-Face!!! (This is, of course, subject to change if necessary.) To comply with safety protocols, attendance numbers will be limited.

Hank the Cowdog Ranch Life Book 4 is free to Region 17 Teachers!

The Ranching Heritage Museum will supply a free classroom set of John R. Erickson's Ranch Life 4, "Ranch Weather" to teachers as long as supplies last. Email with your preferred pick up date, your name, and the name of the school where you teach, to schedule your pickup time!

Calling all Hank Fans! Calling all McConaughey Fans!

A new podcast series has launched starring Matthew McConaughey as “Hank the Cowdog.” Several episodes are available currently and a couple more will be available this month. The free podcasts can be accessed through Apple Podcasts or other podcast hosting services. More information about the series can be found at;

Each of the five podcast episodes will have an educational activity prepared by the National Ranching Heritage Center at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. These activities will be aligned with national curriculum standards and will focus on literacy, science, STEM and social and emotional well-being.
