Newsletter Week 5, Term 3 2021
St Joseph's Catholic School Morrinsville 24th August 2021
Principal's Message
Wow, what a week since our last newsletter! We were preparing for Grandparent's Day and life was super normal. Who knew that evening Alert Level 4 will take us back into Lockdown! I am writing this from my messy kitchen table with my little assistant Oakley trying to write on everything too. I know how tricky it is to manage a household, learning from home, and trying to work as well. Although I feel very blessed to have more time with my family, I know that for others, this is such a time of uncertainty. It affects incomes, jobs, health, mental health and being isolated from others. Kindness is so important and if you need some support, please reach out, but also to reach out to others too.
We have care meals available so if you know of anyone that may need one, including yourselves, please drop us a private message on our school facebook page or email principal@stjoes.school.nz and we can get one dropped off.
We are not sure what schools will look like in the next wee while. Our school is prepared at every level so when a level change occurs, we've got this! In the meantime, take care of yourselves, try to find a quiet time in the day (so hard to do, I know) and find those blessings in this unique experience we have been given.
God Bless you and your whānau.

Thank you

Our Parish
The Parish has its own Facebook Page:-
Parishes of The Holy Family- Morrinsville, Te Aroha & Paeroa
This is a great way to stay connected especially in times of physical separation as we experience particularly with lockdowns.
Full of relevant information and inspiration (and the occasional Dad joke) this page keeps us up to date with not only Parish and Liturgical life but also comments on pertinent current events.
Feeding our Spiritual needs the ‘Parishes of The Holy Family’ is your true Facebook “Friend”.
So check in and follow the ‘Phantom Photographer’ celebrating the good stuff, sympathising with the sad and keeping us linked as one family of faith.
Support and Information
Looking for support or information?
If you need help with financial assistance, or you require social service support (food grants, etc), please visit the Ministry for Social Development at www.msd.govt.nz or phone 0800 559 009. This support is available to anyone who needs it.
It is normal to feel anxious or stressed in times of difficulty. There are useful tips on how to stay mentally healthy, as well as information on where you can get help, at Unite Against COVID-19: https://covid19.govt.nz/.../looking-after-your-mental.../
Postponements
Winter Olympics : The closer we get to sports camp the less likely that this camp will happen as a full sports camp week due to the unpredicted COVID Alert Level for August 30th - 3 September.
It is hoped that an alternative date may come available later in the year, but not guaranteed due to prior bookings. If any further information comes to hand, parents/caregivers will be advised.
Mrs Horan understands the disappointment that the competitors will be feeling, especially the Year 8 students, along with their supporters and organisers. The safety of students and supporters must be the priority at this time.
Thank you and watch this space.
Livestock Day 2021
Entry Forms have been circulated to all those students who showed interest.
If your child is intending to have an animal and didn't receive an entry form, copies are available on our website, from the student entrance on their return or
email Robyn on admin@stjoes.school.nz Return date has been extended.
We look forward to a great turnout and lots of fun at St Josephs this year. Thanks.
Reflection
Giving Thanks for this new day
Creator, Life-giver
You love the world so much that,
in Jesus, you promise to be with us till the end of time.
I am grateful that your presence continues
for we are in a time of trouble,
as an out-of-control virus threatens your world and its people.
Thank you for being with us during another day
of social distancing and uncertainty.
Guide our minds and hearts as a remedy is sought.
May the successful outcome bring us
closer to one another and to you.
