FREE STEM OPPORTUNITIES FOR GIRLS IN GR. 7 TO 9: Registration is now open for our Annual Go Code Girl Event! Mark your calendars for February 6, 2021!
Wise-Kidnetic Energy is hosting a free half day event called Go Code Girl. This is normally held in person, but this time it will be held virtually.
WKE is hoping to engage with youth who are interested in coding, technology and engineering, or even youth who never thought that that was an option for them to access. As the industry grows there are so many potential learning opportunities for youth and Go Code Girl can be a good starting point to explore these options!
Go Code Girl is an interactive day, for youth in Gr. 7 to 9, of computer science & engineering intended to expose girls to programming, computational thinking and digital skills through a variety of fun sessions! When students register, they will have an opportunity to take part in online coding activities prior to the event. The more lessons a student completes, the more times their name will be entered to win a prize.
Each year, WKE partners with groups who have expertise and youth programs in different areas of computer science & engineering. Partners this year are UManitoba Women in Computer Science, KIDS CODE JEUNESSE, Girls In Gaming, University of Manitoba Space and Technology Society. For example, one of the partners Girls in Gaming is dedicated to creating a fun and collaborative space for young women to explore the technical and creative possibilities of video game development. Their goal is to inspire the next generation of designers, creators, and engineers.
Go Code Girl is happening virtually on February 6, 2021 entirely all free of charge. Because this is a virtual event, internet connectivity and access to a digital device will be required.
Registrations are now open at https://www.wisekidneticenergy.ca/go-code-girl.

February 7th to 13th, 2021
Burn Awareness Week takes place February 7th – 13th, 2021 and is dedicated to reminding and educating all age groups about burn and fire safety. As in the past, the Manitoba Firefighters’ Burn Fund and the Office of the Fire Commissioner will be sponsoring a “Burn Awareness Week Poster Contest” for Kids in Grades 5 – 8.
Here is the link to view the past winners' posters.
Wouldn't it be great to have a student win from our school!!
See attached posters for more information!
THE GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE
The last week of January brought the Great Kindness Challenge. What a great week! The kids jumped right into the challenge - making kindness posters and display boards for their class, giving notes to EA's, office staff, custodians, teachers, and principals. It was wonderful to experience their appreciation and see the positivity in school.
Because the school reached 20,000+ Acts of Kindness, Mrs. Rebizant turned into a Dinosaur for a Day (T-Rebz), on Monday, February 1st. The kids loved T-Rebz coming to visit their class!
THE TORNADO HUNTER
On Friday, January 27th the Grade 5's had the privilege of seeing an online presentation by the Tornado Hunter. This is the only professional storm chasing team in Canada. Students learned about severe weather and the safety aspects of surviving the worst that nature can produce. It was both an educational and entertaining presentation!
