Ready to Learn: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe

How Spring Got Its Name 🌸 🌱 🐣

  • 🌱 The spring season gets its name from the verb "spring." It's a nod to the flowers and plants springing up, springing open, and bursting into blossom.
  • 🐣 The word itself comes from the Old English word "springan," which means "to leap, burst forth, fly up; spread, grow."
  • 🌸 During the 14th century, the word came to describe the spring season, the time when plants wake from their winter sleep and bloom.

These paintings are from the first term Art Class. They are student explorations in colour theory, composition, and mark making. These paintings were made by mixing only red, yellow, and blue.

Do you have a spoon or fork?

This is a question that we get a lot in the office! Students bring items in their lunch that need a fork or spoon to eat. Spoons and forks add up in price when you are supplying many children several times a week. Utensils: can be purchased for 25 cents and are reusable, at the Canteen. Please remember to send whatever items your child needs to eat their lunch.

Thank you for your consideration!

Keeping Our Students Safe

Please remember to slow down when passing SMS on Lumber Avenue during the school day (speed zone of 30 kms/hr).

Please drop your child off on the south side of Lumber. Students running across the street and drivers stopping traffic increases the risk of accidents and injuries.

Encourage your child to use the cross walk when crossing Lumber Avenue, and to make use of our crossing guards when crossing Brandt Street or Barkman Avenue.

It's Cold Outside!

Remember to wear warm outer clothing to school so that you can enjoy some outdoor recess time at lunch! It's great to get a little fresh air during the day!

We are already planning our Spring fundraiser, so keep a lookout for those details in the coming months. Remember, everyone is always welcome to join us at our monthly PAC meetings. Our next meeting is at the school on Tuesday February 28th at 6 pm.
