Welcome to the 2022-2023 Aloha High School Swim Season
Welcome to the first Season Welcome Update -
After two years, tomorrow we will again enter the water at the Aloha Swim Center. I know that we cannot wait to come home. Many of you have never had the opportunity to swim for Aloha in our pool so it will be a great welcome and for our seniors who were last there their freshman year it will definitely be a special day. I just know that we cannot wait.
Please take the moment to go through everything in this letter. There is a lot of important information. Many of this is a repeat but there have also been some changes to our calendars.
Great news, we have been lucky to be able to have Dominique DeMouchet join us again as our dryland coach. So the calendars are updated with dryland practices added.
I do want to remind everyone, even if you are not cleared yet, to please attend practice. We cannot have you in the water but you will still be able to observe practice and anything we may be teaching. This will help you when you are able to start practicing.
Every week we will have a theme for the week that will be incorporated into our practices. One of the things that Aloha wins at week after week is our sportsmanship, kindness, support of others, etc... That is a badge we are beyond proud to carry. That also means that we will incorporate character development into our program.
We are very excited to have our parent meeting/potluck on Wednesday. Please take the time to sign up to bring a dish to share.

Swimmers are You Prepared for Practice
It is really important that everyone feels ready and prepared for practice:
- Is your athletic registration complete and cleared?
- Do you have your suit?
- Do you have goggles?
- Do you have a towel?
- Do you have a full water bottle? (this is mandatory in order to practice)
- Have you eaten a good breakfast and lunch/ A healthy snack?
- Do you have a great mindset - ready to work?
If you answer yes to all of this you are ready and so are we!!!
What to Expect on Monday
We encourage everyone whether you are fully registered or not to attend. IF you are not cleared, you will not be able to swim but you will be ready to roll when you are cleared by attending and learning about your coaches, your team and what to expect.
- Please arrive and wait for a coach before you can entering the locker room- no coach no swimmers allowed.
- Once a coach arrives please go into the locker room and change quickly - wear sweats or something over your suit
- Please bring all of your items onto the deck to keep everything safe
- Please have your water bottle
- We will have a team meeting
- Please be ready to participate and learn
- When we finish we will get a chance to get into the water
- We will leave every area we enter as cleaner or cleaner than we found it - so please leave the locker room spotless

Weekly Theme
"The moment you take responsibility for everything in your life is the moment you can change anything in your life" Hal Elrod, Success Coach
What does this mean to you? Please take a moment to think about this and be ready to discuss.
Swimmer Parking at the Pool and Staff Parking Lot
- option school students you can park in either parking lot once you arrive
- Aloha students you will need to move your car after the end of the school day or leave your car and go to after practice -- very important to make your way to your car immediately after school - please do not dally as we need you in the water or on deck ASAP
Parent Pick-up
- The fire lane in front of the Pool is not a waiting area - please park and text your swimmer you are at the pool - there are swim lessons that follow and a lot of little ones in the area and parent drop off for those lessons so please please do not wait in the fire lane
- All swimmers must be picked up no later than 1/2 hour after practice/ home meet or within 15 minutes of us arriving back from an away swim meet. Coaches cannot leave until everyone is picked up - please read our policy in the handbook
- If you need or would like to speak to a coach - come on in we are happy to help however we can
Thank you
Team Swim Suit - Mandatory
Swim Suit Ordering - Friday- November 18th @ practice
Over my years of coaching, the look of a unified team is so important for team spirit and confidence. In that vein, purchasing a team suit is mandatory. Below you will find a preview of our newest team design. This year we have a new team design and will carry this design for at least four years. Fortunately, last year Beaverton High School generously purchased us team caps so that will help with cost. Please keep in mind that if your swimmer takes care of their suit, by hand washing and hanging dry, only wearing for competition, the suit can last the rest of their swim career.
Suit styles:
- For the ladies, you will have a choice of a thick strap or thin strap suit
- For the men you will have the option of the jammer or the brief
The cost for all suits men and women is $70. The cost covers all of the sublimation, the suit and shipping. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me, we are here to help everyone.
We will assign a swim suit fee to each of the swimmers accounts so that you can pay through Parentvue. Please pay your swim suit fee by Friday, the 17th. Thank you for your help so that we can get suits ordered
Dryland Training Training is Coming after Thanksgiving
- You will need to arrive no later than 5:55am ready to work out
- Please wear gym appropriate clothing and shoes
- You will be working out in the weight room and lower gym
- dryland will end around 7:00am
- You will then have time to get ready for your school day - and if at option schools you will have time to get ready and get to school
- This is a resource that many schools do not have - we are very lucky to have this available for you so it is extremely important to take advantage as well as not get an unexcused absence which then means you will miss afternoon practice in the water as well which then is another unexcused practice.
- We are preparing you to be the best athlete you can be
Nutrition Tip of the Week
Ways to avoid Cramping:
- Swimmers should up their water intake. We ask that all swimmers please drink at least 48 ozs of water prior to practice not all at once but throughout the school day, regular water intake during practice (full water bottles are mandatory in order to practice)
Hydration Tips

-Potassium is another source needed to help avoid cramping. There are many great natural potassium rich foods. There are great resources found below.
Dryland Tip of the Week
Dry-Land Tip
I encourage each of you to try dryland at least two times a week. Swimming Specific Yoga is one of my favorite resources. They work on core, specific strokes, shoulder strengthening, breathing etc.... Great workouts that are low impact. Please take the time to improve yourself and enhance your swim experience.
More Swimmers are Always Welcome
Parents, reach out to your parent friends as well.

Team Gear List and places to locate
As swimmers, we do need to have the following:
- At least one practice suit (we recommend 2-3) - Please note that for ladies it needs to be a one piece and for men it needs to be a jammer or a brief.
- At least one pair of goggles
- for ladies and men with longer hair a swim cap - I recommend getting several they do wear out
- One full water bottle at every practice
- towel
We recommend in order to keep cost down that you use https://www.swimoutlet.com/. - you can get suits at a really reasonable price if you look in the uglies or grab bag suits - these are the suits left over from previous season - they are not necessarily ugly. Also they have their owon brand of items that work great. Sporti suits, sporti goggles and sporti caps are just fine. If you would like any recommendations please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
You can also go to Dick's sporting goods for items as well.
