What I'm Reading.... (The •5)
As we begin our Innovation Center work analyzing our scholar's work on writing across the entire schoolhouse, I have been digging back into John Hattie's work, specifically regarding feedback. Let this sink it:
"In an environment where students are making errors, they need to be drenched in feedback to regain momentum, think stratgically, and take action (GROW!). In palces where feedback is nonexistnet or unproductive, the learner can become paralyzed or even give up. Worst of all, she might come to the conclusion that she's better off playing it safe because errors just make her feel sorry."
CHALLENGE is a high-yield approach to learning! But feedback MUST happen, often, intentional, and specific!

Focus on......... Literacy (The •15)
Our #BeBCMS Moral Imperatives to an ELITE school are not changing. Do you remember them?
a. Come to School- BE AMAZING- Go Home! Repeat
b. Bell to Bell instruction
c. ALL instruction/teaching will be on grade level and standards based
d. Take a STAND for teaching and learning. Get up!
Focus On:
Literacy
We will increase our students ability to earn a 3 or higher on Extended Repsonse. Extended repsonse includes:
Coherence
Idea development
Organization of thoughts
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking
- Critical Thinking (Reasoning)
The Innovation Center: Quarter Two will focus on our work with the extended writing in our classes. Please bring at least one sample from your class to share.
NEW information:
The new Lexile bands for BCMS :
997-1070- 6th grade
1045-1120- 7th grade
1097-1185- 8th grade
Performance Flags!
Since 2015, BCMS has historically had ALL red flags in performance.
That means: we have shown no growth in our students by sub group. For example, each content area is broken down by different variables:
WHITE- ELA
BLACK- ELA
ED- ELA
etc.
This year, based on CCRPI data that has been released and our performance on GMAS, we have YELLOW, GREEN, and GREEN STAR flags! This is ELITE news!
We will discuss this more, but the main message is : the work we are doing IS paying off!
#PlanTheWork and #WorkThePlan
Stay the Course!
